Yeah, my CD-RW must have screwed up since I burned the firmware so many times to test it, I burned it with another CD-RW, now the firmware works!

  2. Hi everyone. I did a little testing with the new firmware and here are my results, I hope this information will be useful.

-DivX3 definitely improved over version 0229. I tried a DivX3 CD that wasn't playable before, but now it plays. In addition, other DivX3 that were skippy before now plays smoothly. I even tried a very low bit rate anime clip, and it still plays. However, slight freezes are still noticeable, but tolerable!

-OGG now plays correctly. HOWEVER, OGM (A container class with an AVI video clip and OGG sound clip) will not play. Interesting enough, the OGM files show up under the Music Category. It appears some effort were put into making OGM files play, but they probably gave up :P.

-Full directory support. Now you can listen to your MP3/OGG while browsing to other directories.

-Out of my curiosity, I tried some RM/ASF/WAV files, but obviously, they didn't show up, and therefore didn't play.

-Some HDTV high bitrate *.MPEG clip can now be played smoothly. But several HDTV high bitrate XviD clips still have green bars all over the place and they won't play correctly. Also, Microsoft WMP9 (HDTV) AVI files will not play.

-MULTIPLE subtitles (SRT) work! I have a movie with TWO SUBTITLES, one named some_movie.xxx.srt, and the other some_movie.srt. When I pressed the Subtitle key, the player rotated through these two files. There is a slight delay (video freezes) when you press the subtitle key. I also tried out a movie with Chinese subtitles, but they are shown as garbage text, even though I changed the language to Chinese. So subtitle support is still not perfect.

  3. Way to go wiggie!!!
Thanks a lot for testing and review.
I guess you used liteon_v0302_officieux.nrg (5,613 kb) file, right?

  4. Yes, I used the liteon_v0302_officieux.nrg file.

  5. I have two questions.

    Upon installing the 302 firmware:

    1) Is the region free hack still working?

    and..

    2) Is the ability to turn off Macrovision still working?

Thanks for testing this firmware btw!
    Quote Quote
  6. I just went ot the site and downloaded the firmware indicated above.
it is the officeux.nrg as stated - The version I downloaded was the one that had been modified by Dyter apparently in order to correct the official factory release - IS THIS THE VERSION THAT YOU INSTALLED?? As the other version which is the factory approved is grayed out and not available.

Am I correct in assuming that the 2002 does indeed support .srt subtitles for DivX encoded media. I could not find anything in the forums on that nor is their any indication that the 2002 plays subs on anything other then DVD's in the manual - So I assumed as in presumption as in STUPID everytime I do that - that the 2002 would not support seperate sub files and spent 3 days gathering the info to hardburn subs into my media -

Actually using a little utility to convert the .srt to .ssa and then Avery Lee's subtitle filter in VDub they really did come out great on the one movie I did - however since I have so many that are accompanied with English subs I shall be trying to play my DivX movies (all encoded with 5.0 or later) with the .srt files.

Up to now been burning them on CD's but just got an 8x dual format so in the next couple of days I plan on trying to put them on DVD-R's - Be nice to put 3 to 4 movies on a single DVD instead of having to burn two CD's for each movie.

My movies are currently divided so they fit onto 2 CD's usually around 680 - 690mb each - such as movienamecd1.avi and movienamecd2.avi and movienamecd1.srt and movienamecd2.srt --- Can I just burn them onto the dvd media along with say difmovienamecd1.avi and divmovienamecd1.srt etc or should I put each in a seperate folder and then burn the folder with contents?? Any help in this area would be appreciated.

NEXT IN REFERENCE TO MY EMAIL ABOVE:

In sending it to the Marketing Department I also addressed it to the Attention of V.P. Marketing for their US subsidiary.

If anybody within LiteOn is going to stimulate an atmosphere of product and customer support it will be the marketing people - and most likely they use independent sales reps and/or an independant distribution network - but when the honcho's in Taiwan feel that there units are not doing as they should or they are losing Retail Outlets and don't understand why - The VP of marketing will be the first head to roll - so it is in his best interests to try to maintain a happy customer base His only other recourse is to make sure that he informs the CEO the CFO etc that they are making a drastic error by not maintaining longer support for their discontinued products and do so in writing so that he has recourse should they try to lay it on him and he also can kick back with the I told you so's if they fail to listen.

Writing tech support may solve an immediate problem but the decision to no longer support a particular product is an executive decision and if you want to really have any input your emails in reference to product support should be addressed to either the VP of Marketing both the US subsidiary if you are from the US or the individual who holds the corresponding position at the parent company. If one can get the names of these executives especially the CEO's of both parent and US sub - that is even better - often they haven't the foggyist idea that all this rumbling is going on about their product support - a decision that was probably made by a VP of manufacturing or similar while they were out trying to figure out where to put their next manufacturing plant.

  7. Updated fine. Alot of xvid/mp3 avi's that were out of synch now play great. Divx3's are smoother and stutter only rarely now.

One problem that persists though is that divx3/mp3 avi's still have no sound when using digital audio out. xvid/mp3 and divx5/mp3 avi's work fine.

The default aspect ratio for pretty much all avi types is still off and must be manually corrected. That's rather annoying.

Also the dim setting is still not remembered. I was kind of hoping that would be added. Oh well, not a big deal.

LiteOn, release the source please. I will give you candy!

  8. There is finally something on Liteon website on how to fix the problem.
I hope someone will try, I don't know if I can since I already updated mine with that v0302_officieux.nrg
Please follow the step upgrade your LVD-2002 as below :
Step 1 : Please download the TSP file ( file download ) and use " NERO " software to make a data CD.
Step 2 : Put the TSP disc into LVD-2002 and you can see the " ISO DISC " message appear on the front panel display.
Step 3 : Press " Play " button on the front panel , the disc tray will tray-out then tray-in automatically.
Step 4 : The " ISO DISC " message will appear on the front panel display again, please remove the disc and reboot system.
Step 5 : Place the update disc( firmware-0302 ) on the disc tray to upgrade firmware and check this operation is working or not.

  9. I used the new update procedure (TSP disk first) that's now available at the Liteon web site. I had previously tried just the 3.02 update disk which did not work. The new procedure worked. The Setup screen now shows v 3.02.

I've only tried a few things. In general the system seems more peppy. Fast fowarding divx files is still limited to 1 minute increments. But the response is much better. In the past (2.29) it took about 6 seconds to FF the first time, and 3 seconds on subsequent FF's. Now it takes less than 1 second every time.

  10. I also updated with Officeux. Seemed to work fine. I hope all the guys changed was the VendorID and the Player entries in the flash.fuf file.

I wonder if anyone had a chance to compare the Officeux version with the one released by LiteOn? Is it worth trying to re-upgrade?

  11. I just downloaded the TSP for LVD-2002 which is supposed to fix the update 3.01 problem..

Its another .NRG file.. so i burned it to a rewritable cd and placed it in my player.. It said no files found and the instructions on the liteon website said to press play.. so i did.. and it opened the drive and closed like it was suppsoed to..

I then inserted the Update cd in the drive and it updated perfectly.. The new firmware works great!

How are you manually correcting the aspect ratio? Its always annoyed me to see it off on every avi.

  13. I was able to update the firmware, but after that my player started to frieze quite often. Should I re-flash?

Press "Zoom" and then use Left, Right, Up, Down to stretch/squish the video vertically and horizontally. You usually want to squish it. Don't press "Zoom" again or it resets. It also resets with every title switch.

I popped the two NRGs open and checked the MD5 hashes on all of the files. They are all identical except the flash.fuf (changed as you mentioned above) and the logo.png file. I can't believe that that makes all the difference, but then again, this whole TSP thing doesn't make a lot of sense either.

So, all that said, can someone tell me if the secret menu is still there after upgrading to the new firmware? Or if there is any other reason I shouldn't upgrade?

    Thanks

  18. The update went without a hitch on my 2001. I powered it on, inserted the CD, and let it do its stuff.

I did try testing a previous divx 3 CD wich had jittering problems, and it still has the problems.

    God damn lite on...

Oh well, I got an xbox, and installed some apps on it, which plays everything I have flawlessly...

Successfully flashed to the V0.T3.02 using the "tsp" file fix:

Failed the first time using incorrect burn settings. The "tsp" file fix won't work if the disc is burned using "Mode 1."

Use the following settings when burning LVD2002.tsp to a CDR:

    1. I used a CDR. I suppose a CDRW would work.
    2. Use "Multi-Session"
    3. Use Mode2/XA
    4. Use "Track at Once"
    5. Do not finalize

I then inserted the "tsp" disc. It reported "no files found" just as LiteOn instructions say. I then pressed "play." The disc auto-ejected, then auto-inserted. When the ISO disc menu re-appeared, I manually ejected the disc and turned off the player.

Then, I turned on the LVD-2002 and inserted the V0.T3.02 upgrade disc. Upgrade then accomplished successfully. The LED display indicated status as it read the disc, erased the ROM, flashed the ROM, then on-screen instructions directed me to turn off the player. I did so. The player then turned itself back on. It appears that the flash was accomplished successfully.

By the way, I always feel that when flashing any ROM, it is best to plug the device into a battery back-up device so that a momentary glitch in power will not cause a flash failure.

Just think, if the power drops out for even a second in time, the entire process is lost and the player may be rendered unusable.

If we think it's tough to get LiteON to anwer e-mail, just think how hard it would be to have the player exchanged over a bad flash!!

  23. Can't get my player to accept TSP disk. I used directions VideoJockey2002 provided to burn. Player gets to the play menu with 3 icons and says "no files found". When I pressed "play/pause" button nothing happened. I tried CD-R and CD-RW, no luck. BTW TSP file changed from what Goblin described. Now it looks like this:

    Lucky777,

The only thing that should happen when you press Play (on the front panel) is that the disc should eject and reinsert itself. No other indication on the screen will show that anything has actually happened. Does it not open when you press the Play button? If you got the message "no files found", it sounds like everything is correct.

You shouldn't be seeing a play menu with three icons when using the TSP disc. You should have the "light up your digital life" screen when you first insert the TSP disc, then it loads, says "ISO disc", then reads it, says "no files found!", then you press Play (nothing appears to happen here), disc ejects and reinserts by itself, you press eject, remove disc, turn off power, turn back on, insert Firmware disc that you burned separately from the TSP disc (you can't have both files on the same disc). Then it loads and begins the actual update.

From what you described, it sounds like you did everything correct up to the point where it seems you may have reinserted the TSP disc after repowering the player, instead of the FW disc. Do you have two separate discs made with the TSP on one and the FW on the other? Very important.

  25. I burned 2 disks. One disk has a single LVD2002.TSP file on it and nothing else. When I insert it, player first displays "light up your digital life" screen , then for a split second screen gets black with "no files found!" in the left top corner, then it goes to the 3 icons play menu blue screen and says "no files found!" on the bottom. I pressed play button from there but nothing happened.

  26. Hmmm... as much as I love my 2001, and am almost entirely happy with the new firmware, I will never buy a Lite-On product again... Why? Simply because after not even four months of using a hardware product, I DON'T want its manufacturer to tell me "Well, I'm stopping making those now, so I won't support or update them anymore. So, f**k off, though you're welcome to buy my new product which is an updated version of the one you have" again.

In fact, I was just deciding on a new PC setup and I was already practically convinced to buy a Lite-On DVD recorder with it, but now that I know their update policy, I'll probably go for a Pioneer. Or maybe I'll wait for the dual-layered Sony.

  27. I seem to be having the same problem like Lucky777, where I would make TWO separate CDs, one with the TSP and the other the Firmware. But when I insert the TSP disc, the player would read it and then prompt me up to the blue "Play Menu" with the words on the bottem, "No files Found!" So, on this screen which comes up I cannot seem to be able to press the "Play" button and get my player to open and close like everyone else.

I hope that someone might help or give us some suggestions to this problem. Thanks.

    Guys,

I opened the .tsp file with notepad, this is exactly what it says:

    023A;
    ETN2 N SINF MTYP END! NER5 N

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can check yours against this, this is the TSP that worked on my player. It would appear to be the same as the one you posted, but you are missing the data string at the end that it may need to have in order to work properly. Maybe you can copy and paste/save this using notepad to edit the TSP file and try again. If not, I can always e-mail the one I have to you. Let's go from there.

EDITED: I just noticed that the file I downloaded on 3/22 at 10AM is different from the file I got on 3/24 at 3PM (and actually used - I downloaded it twice on two different PC's on two different days). The original file was unzipped and was a .nrg file with a TSP file inside it, but the one I downloaded on 3/24 was unzipped and wound up just being the TSP file only, not a .nrg file anymore. So they did change it for some reason, but the one I posted from the notepad above is the one that actually worked. I never tried the .nrg version of the TSP.

  29. Hey, thanks Roundabout for the help and suggestion.

I tried editing my copy with that last line of coding and re-burned it but to no avail. The TSP file still brings me up to the blue "Play Menu" with the 3 choices with the words, "No files Found" on the screen. That is very strange. I thought I would have it this time too.

But if it isnot too much of an inconvience, please email me a copy of the TSP file that you have at

    pe7er_wong@yahoo.com

Thank you and anyone else who may have other suggestions for me to try.

    Peter,

It's in your e-mail right now. Let me know if it works, if it does, either you or I can send it to Lucky777 if he wants.
