Trying to create a DVD for the first time using ULEAD's DVD Workshop. I Have three video clips that I captured from a VHSc camera using Main Concept MPEG encoder. They are in MPEG format. When going through the burn process in Workship it looks like it's rerendering the files and each times stops when it's 49% done.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Bump...

Any ideas why this is freezing everytime at 49%? Just tried it again this morning and it did the same thing.

I used TMPG Author and burned a DVD with the same video files and it came out perfect. Hmmm

  3. Please right-click on the thumbnail representing one of the captured files.

Then click PROPERTIES to obtain a precise read-out of your video/audio clip properties.

What does the read-out tell you?

For example, I sometimes get property read-outs for MPEG-2 files I've created from DV .avi files.

These MPEG-2 files have the following precise video/audio properties:

    NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
    MPEG files
    24 Bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
    Field Order A
    (DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8264 kbps)
    LPCM Audio, 48 KHz, Stereo

How do the properties of your source clip compare?

Also, which specific make/model of capture device are you using?

I have had some trouble with Workshop freezing like that during rendering. Even when I gave it perfect MPEG-2 files and when I gave it DV-AVI files....I don't know what to tell you. Basically all I did was restart it a couple of times and it eventually rendered it.

What you are probably running into is a clip of video that is maybe a little corrupt or something and WShop just doesn't like it. The last video I did with WShop, I had to convert on of the files to MPEG-2 before it would render the DVD. I don't know what difference it made...but when I changed the format of that ONE clip it rendered just fine.

That is one of the many reasons I now use TMPGEnc DVD Author. If you used TDA...I just wouldn't go back. Actually the video is much sharper out of TDA than it is from DVDWS anyway and the render time is much better. Especially if you spend a little money and get TMPGEnc Plus and use that to convert your AVI's to MPEG-2.

I've uninstalled all of the Ulead software on my PC except for Cool 3D.

I'm pretty sure it's crashing on the 3rd of my three files as that's what file it's on in the status when it crashes. Here are the readouts of that file:

Video Type: MPEG-2 Video, Lower field first
    Total Frames: 89,892
    Attributes: 24 bits, 720x480
    Frame Rate: 29.970 Frames/Sec
Date Rate: Variable bit rate (Max. 8000 kbs)
Audio Attributes: 48000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
    Layer: 2
    Bit rate: 224kpbs

Also, which specific make/model of capture device are you using?
I'm capturing through a Sony TRV-30 MiniDV camcorder.

    Thanks

PS..By the way Jerry, I read your ULEAD tutorial yesterday and spent sometime looking at your website. Thanks for taking the time to do that it was helpful.

I think I'd love to stick with just TDA, but I love some of the menu templates and easy of use in creating menus with Workship. Does anyone know of another way to create good looking menus?

use dvd-lab from mediachance.com for total control...best out there and cheap to purchase and full working 30day trial 18mb to download, you'll never go back to cheap stuff...

however, if you like easy template authoring stuff with automatic motion thumbnail menus, etc like workshop, then use sonic mydvd 5.2. it will convert audio to dolby digital ac3 so compiling takes a bit longer, but sound is excellent and very user friendly. if you end up using/liking mydvd and want custom motion background menus from home movie clips or whatever, then email me offline and i'll get you squared away, just few things you need to add to accomplish that as not built in for custom background, only preset motion backgrounds that come with program. also, i'll help with any dvd-lab stuff...amazing authoring...took dvd maestro to whole new level, basically (same layout premise)

  8. Thanks - it was my pleasure.

May I ask which make/model of capture device you are using?

Are you using an OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 card to capture the video/audio from your Sony camcorder?

Also, please know there's a new update patch on the Ulead Web site for Ulead DVD WORKSHOP 2.0:

Just a heads up, but dvd-lab seems to be very buggy for several people...including myself...while others have no problems with it. I do agree however, that it is a VERY good software and when the bugs are worked out of it...it will be the best out.
