  1. i have a movie that is 2 divx files long, the movie is 2h 4min long, 592x320 (1.85:1), 1175 kb/s, 25 fps (pal), with AC3 audio. i've extracted the AC3 audio from both movies (407mb) now i'm left with the dilemma do I convert both of these files to one dvd (will i lose any quality) or do i use one dvd for each half (at 9341 kbps bitrate).

just an opinion from you guys would be great

  2. you should be able to fit 2 hours of video into a dvd-r.
use to dvdrhelp bitrate calculator to calculate the correct bitrate to use.

  3. is 4460 a reasonable bitrate, will i lose quality? or should i go with the max bitrate of 8000, or is that too much?

  4. for a 2 hrs, 4 min using 192 kb/s ac3 audio, your bitrate should be around 4722, when using constant bitrate (cbr).

if you're going to use variable bitrate (2-pass vbr), set your average bitrate to 4722, max to 8000-9000, min to 1500-2000.

8k for both cbr and vbr is too much and will cause your mpg file to be too big to fit on one dvd-r.

  5. i appreciate the response, but my question is, what is the difference in picture quality from 8000 to 4400? is it even noticable?

  6. why not test it out. create a small clip at 4400 bitrate and one with 8000 bitrate. compare the two clips. Can you tell the difference?

  7. There IS a difference. I notice a difference when I play it on my plasma. It is however, a small difference. A little more compression. Depending on what you intend to play it on (CRT, plasma, etc.), I would just put it on one dvdr since it is probably downloaded from the internet anyways with questionable quality.....
