I have a Cyberhome CH-DVR1500 ( USA REG-1) and the manual currently says it records in both NTSC and PAL. (I used the hack and made it region free).
When I try to run a PAL signal tru – it just makes a “sparkly” noise and the picture from the TV disappears ( I make sure my video output is set to NTSC composit to mach my NTSC Television set) and when I press ‘record’ works for 2 seconds and then goes to video in – standby mode.
*The manual says : it will not record PAL if the DVD disc already contains NTSC recording, so I inserted brand new DVD in – same result. I try to run signal only without recording – with a disc in and with a disc out – still the same result.
Although in NTSC it records fine.
I emailed Cyberhome North America support yesterday ..haven’t heard from them so far.
Anybody else with the same problem experience?

It will record PAL but only as PAL

It won't take an incomming PAL signal and convert to NTSC

But it will play back your PAL recorded DVD+R and convert to NTSC but only when you PLAY back the disc.

I don't have one myself ... this is based on other user comments who actually own it.

My guess is you need to set it to PAL for output for it to record PAL input.

It might even have an input selector for NTSC/PAL

But you can't input PAL and expect NTSC output in real-time I know that for sure.

I tried all that. There is no system selection for input signal.
The recording DOES NOT START. It acts like there is a copyright protected sourse.
I even tried to trick the Cyberhome DVDR – I started recording in NTSC and on the fly converted the input signal to PAL – it stopped recording right away.
Probably the one that is made for Europe ( made in Germany) records in PAL and NTSC)
Mine is made in China for USA., But the Manual says it should record in bought PAL and NTSC.

I guess I am heading back to Walmart on Saturday to get my money back and I am looking forward to bying the pHILIPS DVDR75 which should have all features of Cyberhome + component video Input and IEEE(1394).l, well for $70 more.

I believe you need to select TV Type PAL. You will face same issues with Philips. Another option you have is LiteOn.... but again... you might be facing same trouble.

I tried selecting TV system ‘PAL” too – the moment I hit ‘record’ – the PAL (B/W on my NTSC TV) picture disappears ! problem is not just the displayed output signal – the DVDR will not start recording – just returns to Video in standby mode in 1- seconds and does nothing.

Any body else ever had the same problem with other multi-system DVD recorders made for USA?

  6. I was able to record to Philips in PAL source (US model). See one of my old posts.... (I am lazy to search right now). I don't have it anymore...
