  1. Can someone tell me with what minimal configuration I can watch divx and vcd movies? I want to built a divx player from an old PC. I have got a cd-rom player and an external vga-to-tv device so what processor and MB memory do I need?

If you are buying brand new then just get the cheapest you can. The cheapest duron and 128MB Ram (as it is so cheap anyway). New processors are so vastly overpowered compared to older ones, a 600Mhz Duron should easily cope. Base everything else around this.

  3. I had a Pentium Celaron 300 with 64 Megs of ram and it played VCDs and DivX perfectly. I think it cost like $400 three years ago.

  4. Thanks guys. At my mum's home I got an old 486 that was upgraded to a P1 133-16 MB. As I recall that crappy old thing played the mpg-clips I received by e-mail. I thought perhaps I could put some more memory in it and look if this does the job. I will try so.
