ATI AIW 9800 Sound help

I'm a newbie and just bought the ATI AIW 9800. I am try to use it as a TIVO however, I need help getting sound from the TV. I connected the cable TV right from the wall into the card. I preset the channels ok but I can't figure out the wizard on how to get sound. I am plugging the Black cable into the AIW video out and trying to find a port in my SB Live that will make it work. I am using the right cable? If so, am I plugging it in the right port? Also, can I go right from the wall into the card or do I need to go through a TV. Help a newbie

Plug the TV out sound to your sound card not your 9800 AIW.

Plug the audio out (the silver mini-plug on the "black cable"--looks like a headphone plug) into the "line-in" on your sound card

then, through the "wizard" choose "line-in" as your source

That is the reason why they provided a maual showing the connection instructions.

I use an AIW 7500 and followed the instructions without any problem.

If you spend a moment or two reading up, you would have figured out your problems. Unless there is a hardware fault.

I installed a AIW 9600 PRO and had a problem where I couldn't get sound
on the TV. I spent hours moving the cables (which didn't mater since they
were dynamically detected anyway). Finally I went to my Sound Card
cofiguration options and changed many options. One of them fixxed the problem and I've never touched the options since then.
I know you would like to know the option I changed, but I don't remember
what it was.

My setup is a little different than yours, but you should have a cable that came with your 9800 that comes off the video card into the line in on your sound card and that should work.

My setup is from wall to DirectTV receiver from there s-video and audio connection to the purple s-video adapter (comes with 9800) into s-video on video card and then the black cable from video card to line in on sound card. Works fine. Make sure your source is 'line-in' and not 'What You Hear'.
