I want some ideas and/or comparision between philips 737 and other players that can play "all" formats

I want it to be able to play
    CD r/rw
    DVD r/rw +/-
    VCD
    SVCD
    DVD
    JPG
    DivX
    Mp3

I live in sweden and it is possbile to get philips 737 for
    1700 skr
    226 $
    125 £

    Is it a good buy
and do anyone have better/equal products to recomend

If and where they should be bought would be nice too

I think I have found the player I was looking for

    Yamada 6000
It has another good feature, it can transform an NTSC signal to pure PAL.

It will be a pleasure using this player

So if your looking for a good DivX player then I suggest you search for this one...
most HIFI dealers can get this player for you

Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.

  6. Please can someone please please please tell me if the dvx-6600 is a good buy or not? Are the previous models (-6100, -6000) actually better? If so I find that strange..

Also, have anyone managed to play divx subtitles with the newest firmware for the -6600??

Does the previous models play divxsubs?

I REALLY need to get these aspects sorted out before I can buy, so please, anyone? Heeelp!

  7. I have a Philips 737, must say I'm happy with it, plays everything I want it to: DivX, Xvid, Mpeg's, MP3, jpg. All of that on DVD-R's too. Haven't had any problems with it.
Subtitles are supported (SRT files), but they're kinda small and yellow, after a firmware upgrade they're gray, but still too small.

  8. Then what about this guy:

    "well i'm very angry...
DivX/XviD plays well good picture but i have an enormous problem: no subtitles
i have tried .sub, .srt, .smi, .ssa. none of them works. i burned CD like this: "filename.avi" , "filename.srt"
i heve tried region on subs "filename.ro.srt", "filename.en.srt"
    still no pictures...
anyone to help me here plz?"

And are you able to play ALL divx/xvids on you 737? On dvd-rw/+rw with multiple fileformats on each disc flawlessly?

A Norwegian dude pointed out that this player doesn“t support QPEL, which, in his words, means he won“t be able play any of the newest Xvids.

Is this true? Are you an "experienced" user when it comes to downloading films of different formats off the internet and playing them on the Phillips? What are your experiences? what about the newest xvids? Do the subs actually work?

    Thanks in advance

Subs do actually work, though I can understand why some people can't get them to work as it's a bit unlogical. You have to select the sub, press OK, then start your xvid/divx.
As for the latest Xvids, I haven't had any probems after a firmware upgrade, before I upgraded I had some (very recent) Xvids that played out of sync on the 737.

It does play discs with different formats on it. I know it plays Divx/Xvid/vcd/svcd files all on one disc. I can however only test it with DVD-R, I have an old 1X DVD-R/RAM writer, no -RW or +RW...
