I am making a svcd with 480x480 from a xvid source file of 704x384 (1.83:1) resolution.
However, nothing i do seems to stop it from being displayed with a little of both sides clipped of (subtitles evidence of this).
I have tried tweaking the aspect ratio, thinking this should be an easy fix, but to no avail.
i used these settings on avisynth in avi2svcd:
BilinearResize(480,262)
AddBorders(0,109,0,109)
as this would give me the 1.83 ratio that the original had, plus the 109 top & bottom borders. Burned the resulting file on svcd with nero, but on 4:3 TV playback the sides are still clipped.
In virtualdub ive tried resizing it to other sizes like 640x272 (2.35:1) ratio but nothing outputs to the TV screen right.
Please, anyone's thoughts on this? Is the source file itself the problem or something im not doing right?

you forgot your tv has 10% "safe area" ..
shrink the image size another 10% and add boarders all sides ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
BJ_M, if this is the case then all vid files will have this 10% chop off the sides, and
aspect ratios pretty much have nothing to do with it.
im really new to this, but been reading the guides here alot. Thanks for the reply will
surely try it.
