  1. I'am trying to enable dma on my cd-rom/dvd drive but when i re-boot my pc the setting will not hold. I have just installed a new ati aiw radeon 32mb ddr graphics card and the dvd playback is jerky. I had the same problem with my hard drive but the setting now holds. Can any one help?

If the settings dont hold that means your hd doesn't support DMA.

    Are you using Win2000?
Try looking in the BIOS to see if any setting there will affect DMA.

  4. i couldnt get my hd (master)to work with w2k in udma mode.. i put the selector on 'dma if available' but it would stay in pio mode.. after playing with it i figured out setting the slave drive setting to 'none' and dma setting to 'dma if available' - there is no slave drive there btw.. i guess w2k was checking the slave setting even though there wasnt a drive there... which also brings out the point that whatever drive you have on the same channel as the dvd player has to be udma for that setting to work... and of course the dvd player itself has to be udma -

You should keep your DVD/CD ROM drive on a seperate EIDE channel from your HD.
Win2000 may have problms with ATA100 HD's, it will not allow them to keep their DMA setting and it will revert to a PIO mode. I think it is only if you have a ATA100 controller on your MB and are using a ATA100 HD.
There is a patch for this.
