Thanks for the reply Mary
I am recording thru an S-Video input with the source being an RCA Direct TV Satellite
Receiver.
As I stated, it records perfectly when I press the record button, but on timer record it almost always records only in B&W.
I called Phillips sevice, and of course they never heard of this problem.
As I mentioned, I bought the unit from Circuit City and after a few timer recordings, I called Phillips and they sent me a firmware updater, which did not fix the problem.
I then returned the unit to Circuit City and they gave me a new one. This one would not operate period, it would not even turn on.
I then returned the second unit and they gave me a third which I still have. At first the timer recording worked correctly, but after one or two trys, it reverted to black and white.
Just for your further information, the first one was made in Belgium, the second in China, and the third in Hungary.
Thanks for your interest
Morry
P.S. I tried to e-mail you directly, but it wouldn't go thru to your given e address

This seems to be an issue reported by a number of users. Check this thread...

I'm surprised that Philips don't appear to have recognised it as a problem yet.
