Hi,
Just a question on write / read times. Just wondering what everyone else was getting as not sure if my times are good / bad.
I have a pioneer 106
AMD 2000
1gig DDR ram
GF4
etc
Normally takes around 45(ish) minutes to read and 18(ish) to write.
Whats everyone else getting?

I've got an Optorite DD0401 8X drive and it will rip an entire full length DVD in about 12 minutes. Usually gets up to about 8800k. Burn times with 8X media are almost always around 9:00 to 9:25 minutes. 4X burns are usually around 14:30. 2.4X burns are about 24 minutes.
Quality of rip and burn are exceptional with no problems at all so far. I use +R media almost exclusively simply because it works in everything I need it to and it burns faster than -R media. -
My Sony DRU530a will rip an entire DVD in under 15 minutes using DVD-Shrink, and will burn it in about 25 minutes on 2x speed to a DVD-RW, or about 15 minutes when burning to a 4x DVD-R.
Since my DVD player only eats DVD-R(W) discs, I have not yet burned on the +RW format, nor have I tried 8x media, although my drive can burn all R formats on 8x and all RW formats on 4x
The Optorite above and the Sony are based on the same Sanyo hardware, so the results should be about the same. Some of the reviews I have read tell me that both the Optorite and the Sony have good "ripping" times, where other drives are slower. Other drives appear to be writing it slightly faster then the Sony or Optorite. -
I have a similar set up to you and its approx 15 min rip / 15 min Write .
What software do you use to rip ? -
If you rip with a DVD ROM, which is what I recommend, about 15-20 minutes is normal. If you rip with a DVD burner, it depends on your firmware and your drive. 15 to 18 minutes to burn is about average for a 4X burner.

Sony DRU510a 14-15min @4x. Pioneer 107D 10 1/2min @6x and 7 1/2-9min @8x. Always using -R media, cause i haven't liked +R media from the get-go.
Rip speeds are basically the same on both drives. Sony Dru510a has that DSS program from Sony which u can select 'overdrive' and it unlocks the read speed. Pioneer i have unlocked with 'patched' firmware. So both drives take anywhere between 10-15min to read.
