I am using DVD Shrink (latest version) to backup a DVD. However, after taking quite some time to do a deep analysis the software errors advising 'cannot read from drive E'. I have not had this problem before and did not play the DVD on my pc before reading it as I understand doing this can write something to the registry, making it impossible to read using this software. I could use DVD Decrypter to read the DVD but as it is over 4.7GB the quality will not be so good. I have tried using AnyDVD in conjunction with DVD Shrink but have encountered pixedlate DVD's with AnyDVD. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

DVD Decrypter does not compress the DVD,it only decrypts and copies the DVD to your HD. DVD Shrink is a good program,VER3.1.7B5,but it has problems decrypting from the disk on some DVD's.
You can't know in advance if a DVD will not decrypt on the fly.
I always rip the DVD and then compress from the HD. -
When ever i find that i cannot decrypt a dvd, i use alternatives. if dvd shrink is not working, try dvd decypter, smartripper etc and see if that works.
like bugster stated, use a ripper first, then use dvd shrink to compress. when ever you face difficulties, always use alternatives, if one software doesn't work, chances are another one will. -
Thanks for the assistance people. I have done as advised, reading the DVD using DVD Decrypter and putting it onto the H/D. This has created a Video_TS folder in the same manner DVD Shrink does. However, when I try to open the files using DVD Shrink I get the following message:
Failed to open the file G:\Matrix\Video_TS\VTS_01_1.VOB
If I open a file previously created successfully with DVD Shrink it opens ok! In my Vido_TS folder I have BUP, VOB and IFO files. I also tried to reading the disc using ISO mode but DVD Shrink won't open it (does not even appear as a file when browsing to it).
Thanks again in advance.
