Computer freezes when encoding, Please Help!

I'm having BIG troubles with converting AVI to MPEG2! Everytime I try to do convert the files, the computer freezes! I've used about 10 different programs (including Nero 6), but the computer still freezes and I haven't been able to make a single DVD yet. I've tried everything!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

See that little area up and to the right that indicates "Computer Details" ?

Questions like yours are the reason it's a good idea to completely fill that out.
Toronto098 thinks you need a faster computer but for all we know you could be on a P4 3.06 GHz machine and it could be a heat problem. The short answer is that we don't have enough info until we know what type of processor, amount of ram, and HD.

If it's heat related,running your computer with the side off while your encoding or use your MB monitoring software to check the temps as you encode might give you the answer.

But more info would be best.
