  1. I've read and (I think) learned quite a bit here recently but have yet to have good results burning svcd. Does anyone have links to tutorials on tmpgenc settings? There are many that I have no clue what they mean, which may be part of my problem.

Anyway, here are the settings on my most recent disastrous attempt with tmpgenc (with question marks after ones I have no idea what they do):

    Stream Type: Mpeg-2 Video
    Size: 720 x 480
    Aspect Ratio: 16 x 9 (orig divx is 16x9)
    Frame Rate: 29.97 fps
    Bit rate: 9800 constant
Main Profile & Main Level ??
    Format: NTSC
    Encode mode: Non-interlace
    YUV Format: 4:2:0 ??
DC Component precision: 8 bits ??
    Motion Search Precision: Normal ??

    Video Source Type: Non- interlace
Field Order: Bottom Field First (field B) ??
Source Aspect Ratio: 16:9 525 NTSC
Video Arrange Method: Full Screen (keep aspect ratio) ??

Audio Stream Type: Mpeg 1 Layer 2
    Sampling 48000
    Channel Mode: Stereo
    Bit Rate: 224 kpbs

When I started encoding, tmpgenc said it would take over 30 hours to encode the whole movie! I burned a 5 minute clip which had pixelated video in slow motion, with no sound. Obviously, there are some serious shortcomings with these settings but I’m not sure which. Also, any help with explanations on the question-marked items above would be appreciated. Again, I am hungry for knowledge of this process, and any links to good tutorials (sorry but the ones here seem to me to be quite inadequate) would also be very much appreciated.

  2. your bitrate is too high, the standard is around 2500, and 9800 is sure a lot more than that, even 4000 bitrates give problems for dvd players
