  1. Sorry for the super duper nub question. I know corresponds to the speed of writing, but that is all I know. I am trying to decide wether to get 25 DVD+RW 2.4x by Memorex for 20 dollars or 25 DVD+R 4x by TDK.
How slow is 2.4x. I know at 4x cd burner would take a good amount of time to burn a full cd. Now is the 4x on a cd burner comparable to the speed of a 4x on a dvd burner. (Except the full disk being much larger for DVD) Any help would be appreciated.

    thanks,

    Todd

  2. wether it's a cd or a dvd----- 2X usually takes 30min for a full disc and 4X usually takes 15Min for a full disc.

And 2.4X would be about 25min for a full disc.

Difference in burn time is about 10 minutes or so for a full disc. The RW discs are re-writable, whereas the other ones are a one shot deal.

  4. As others have said 2.4x and 4x refers to the speed. I have a 2.4x but decided to move up to 4x. I found that movies burned on the 4x sometimes freeze and pixelate on my standalone (ok on computer) where the 2.4x chugs along with no errors. As a result, I only use the 2.4x for movies, the 4x for data. Just something to consider. Just like a car I guess, the faster you go the more likely you are to have a wreck.

Hmm... I've actually been thinking about this too - It makes sense to me in respect to CD, since 1x is the speed with which an audio CD is (was) read. But what is the 1x DVD speed that's the base for DVD reading/writing speed measurements?

  6. 1X DVD is 11.08 Mbps. 1X CD is 150 kBps = 1169 kbps = 1.169 Mbps.

    So 1 x DVD = 11.08/1.169 = 9.5*(1 X CD).
