  1. I've been converting VHS movies to DVD using my AIT video card to capture MPG2, interlaced, variable bit rate, 4megbit max bitrate. The final file is 3.9gig.
I downloaded a Nerovision demo in January and used it to burn ten DVD's. The MPG files would transcode to around 4gig and easily fit on a 4.7gigDVD. The whole process took less than two hours.
I bought NeroUltra Suite and Nerovision 6.03 gives me an error message that says my 3.9gig file won't fit on a 4.7gig disk! I changed the video option settings to "long play". Nerovision dropped it's target bitrate so that the transcoded file was estimated at 4.3gig. But it still wants to take seven hours to transcode and burn!
First, why is Nerovision bloating my files? Second, the seven hours doesn't seem normal especially when it only took a couple hours before. Nerovision techs don't help.

Are you capturing to compliant dvd format? Then shouldn't your author tool(nerovision) reconvert again. Try another author tool, like tmpgenc dvd author or dvd-lab(for more advanced menus).

  3. Thanks for the shortcut to tempgenc.
I downloaded and installed the program and it copied and burned the MPG source in under two hours.
When I loaded the source file it correctly showed the properties as half-D1 at 4mb/sec.
The final file size was 3.7gig.
There is something wrong with Nerovision Express and they won't listen to me.
Thanks for confirming I'm not crazy.

Any advice on getting to Nero? Six emails to the tech did no good. They couldn't or wouldn't address the problem.

  4. I reckon it's a bug in the code, and if enough people make noise, they may address it in the new release. I (and I suspect most Nero people) grabbed Nero largely for burning, the rest was icing. Software shops will pay attention to the staple market sector first.

This DVDauthor thing looks interesting, if you don't mind learning some XML and stuff.
