  1. What is the best MPEG encoder out there, in terms of quality vs. size? (not being particular to VCD, SVCD, MPEG-1, or MPEG-2)

Is it the Panasonic MPEG Encoder?
    TMPGenc?
    CEE?

Let's say I was making a video clip of my own using a video editor and wanted to export the final product to MPEG and would like the best quality, but with the smallest size. Which encoder is best, and what bitrate should I aim at?

    TMPGEnc for MPEG-1/VCD.
    CCE for MPEG-2/SVCD.

  3. i think it would be less inflamatory to discuss which encoders are the worst. xing mpeg is not good...argue with me about that

  4. MPEG-1 at VCD bitrates: I reckon that Panasonic looks better over the whole movie. TMPGEnc is pretty good though and to some people, it is the best.

MPEG-2 at SVCD bitrates: contentious and I don't have enough experience to say for certain though I like CCE. CCE, TMPGEnc and ?LSX 3.5 have been highly praised.

@stanwebber: Xing is not good, but not the worst. LSX v2.0 Adobe plugin version is crap.

Mmm.. My vote for worst would be the built in one in Media Studio Pro 6.0. I think it is a form of the Ligos encoder. But, whatever it is, it sucks much d**k.
