Depends if you have any room in your PC case. I use a IDE PCI controller for my extra HD and a CD burner. If you need to go external, I would use a Firewire case, USB2 can be problematic. I have RAID (80G X 2), 80G boot, 80G backup, DVD ROM, CD burner, DVD burner and a Zip drive. Large case, PS and fans.

  5. I was searching some information about, and i found this promise ultra 100TX2 ( maybe the same that you are talking about).

    The datasheets says:

"Ultra100 TX2’s software drivers automatically boost performance for all drives (even SCSI drives and ATA drives on the motherboard controller) installed in your PC by up to 40%"

    its that true??

or are they just "selling" the product??

This is the one I am using. It works for HD's and CD or DVD drives.http://www.computergate.com/products/item.cfm?prodcd=AIDP13TX2 About $35US. The claims of increased speed are a little optimistic. I wonder what they are comparing it to? Mine seems to be as fast as my MB controller.
