  1. Ok, I downloaded VobSub, only to see a whole bunch of files/folders within the zip. Reading all the Docs, I Find out what I need is the single vobsub.dll which I had to RENAME (took me 5 minutes to realize that) to vobsub.vdf and copy to the filters folder of VirtualDub. Ok, now with that done, I tried it out and opened up an ifo file and received this:

"Cannot read, either locked dvd truncated/missing files!"

Did I install the filter correctly; with it being only one file to install amongst all the files and folders within the VobSub.zip file?
Am I doing something wrong? Am I using the filter incorrectly?
Do I have to have a video OPENED in VDub?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Open the .ifo file, select a directory and then the "select section" window pops up. Select your language and hit the buttom "I've stripped the source file and crossed my fingers" instead of "OK"

  3. Hehe, GREAT! It worked!
    Heh.. uhm...... now what?

Am I supposed to save AVI or frame serve?
But the thing is, they're all grayed out (non-selectable).

    ??

Am I supposed to open a movie into VDub?

    It produced three files:
    vts_01_0.idx
    vts_01_0.ifo
vts_01_0.sub <-- I assume this is the actual subtitling text?

Ok, now with that done, what's next? What's *.idx for? Is that Sub file something I can work with? Can I open it up somewhere and take a look at the subtitles and alter/edit them? Can I use it to produce both embedded subtitles for videos as well as selectable subtitles?

Man.. this subtitling stuff is complex.

If you want to create a (S)VCD, frameserve to your favorite MPEG encoder.
Since I guess, you want to add the subs to a movie, open it in VirtualDub. Convert the dvd2avi project with VFAPI and open that "fake" .avi in VirtualDub.
I don't know how vobsub work exactly. Just save the .ifo, .idx, .sub, .vob, .d2v etc. to the same directory and leave them alone and everything will work perfectly.
Why edit subtitles? Everything you need is configureable in vobsub.
    It produce embedded subtitles only.
