Hello! i am starting to learn how to convert files.

The trouble i am having is getting them to convert...i know to convert the wmv file to a mpeg4 (mencoder) but can't get that to convert to mpeg 1.

The audio is not an issue as backround music will be dubbed in at the finish of my project.

    Can someone help???? thanks!

  2. Will be interested to hear what people have to say cause I'm trying to do the same. I've read that a program called TMPGE will do it. When I tried it, it wouldn't let me choose a WMV file. Others posted that you have to choose an AVI or AIV file type when using this program and then it will show the WMV files.

However, I didn't have any luck using the program. Then again, I only tried it once. I asked the guys at the Apple store yesterday about it. They suggested doing it on a PC with Windows XP using the Media Player or something like that. I don't have XP so I can't try that route.

    TTT 4 someone in-the-know!

  3. Okay, wmv is a can of worms, and someone just popped off the top...First some questions: If you have converted to MPEG4, then why re-encode to mpeg1? If you were able to use ffmpegx to transcode, why didn'y you just ask it to encode to MPEG1 in the first place? From the quick presets pulldown ask for a vcd (or a kvcd) and that should output to mpeg1. Make sure keep elementary streams is checked if you only want the M1V (video track)
    later.

If ffmpegx is not working the best you can do is to capture the output using SnapzProX v.2. Any file capable of being played by mplayer should be able to be transcoded to MPEG1.

Finally if you have the mpeg4, can it be opened in Quicktime? You can encode to mpeg1 in Quicktime Pro using the movie to Toast Viseo CD option. (if you own toast and QTPro)
