  1. A SVHS player?
    A TBC?
    A different capture device?

Currently using aiw9200 for capture. I do not have a TBC at the moment nor a SVHS. My source is a samsung hi8 camcorder or a regular ole VCR.

So, what will give me the best quality boost for the buck?
    Adding a TBC?
Purhcasing a SVHS ($400ish) for vhs tapes and using an adapter to play hi8 tapes through it also?
Or, getting a better hardware capture solution (suggestions)?

$500 to spend but I do not want to waste it on the wrong selection. I hope the experience of those here will help me save some cash in the long run and my wife thanks you in advance.
    As do I.

I would suggest a TBC. It will clean up all incoming signals and make all your present components' signals work better for you. The other ideas can be put off until the next major purchase opportunity.
    Hello.
