  1. I wanted to get everyones thoughts on the better video editing software to use.

I recently got a ATI All-In-Wonder 9700... for gamming mostly. But, it does allow me to capture video. I have older home vids that I would like to capture, which I have already done.

I have both a CD and DVD burner. I would like to eventually burn my home vids to DVD (or CD if need be).

What would be everyone's fav software to do basic editing (cut and paste), adding titles, etc ?

What would be the software of choise for more advanced stuff?

I admit that I have not done much research here at the forum, just thought I might get some quick responses!

    Thanks for the replies!!!

Capturing in MPEG2 for the basics you list, TMPGEnc DVD Author ($48.), would be tops on my list.

When you want more versatility, come back and ask again.

FOO, you are right. I was thinking menu's. I use Pinnacle Studio 7 to title my DV home movies, never had any call to title anything else.

    Ok, my 2 cents.

Personally, I settled on using Pure Motion's Edit Studio software.
Not too expensive, but has very nice collection of features for capturing, editing, adding transitions/effects. It is my "engine" of choice.

Primarily, it is more suited as a DV software package. It goes well with my ADVC-100. (Which was my choice as a DV capture device instead of buying a DVcam.)

I also have Adobe's Premiere Video 6.5, and I would like to get into that more, but the learning curve was shorter for me when using Edit Studio.

What I especially like about Edit Studio is the ease to clip out commercials, or sections, of video. Fast, easy and quick to edit. Multiple undo ops can be done as well, don't know its limit on that. I can also enhance/modify parameters of the associated audio tracks as well. Increase the volume, crossfade, and eliminate it as I wish.

The time to do the editing can be fairly quick as it is XML based, I believe. when "building" the output (their term) - that's where it will take time to get the result.

You can buy their encoder (MPEG XS) if you wish, or plug in otehrs. (not intuitive, though).

What really sold me on this product was their online support.

Great. Fantastic. Good to excellent forums and downloads to match.

    How's that?

And no, I don't work for them.
Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.)

  9. Pinnacle Studio version 9 is an option too (very new right now), but I would not sugest to capture to MPEG. Too many Out-Of-Sync problems regardles of program whe capturing directly to MPEG is involved.
