  1. I need to make films from my analogue camcorder & S-VHS Player. Now I want to edit these by adding titles, transition effects etc; I also may want to add music. I understand womble will keep edited footage the same & has an export feature which enables a lot the footage to be used instead of sending it all to be re-encoded / transformed. This is highly appealing as I really can't be arsed with the waiting that this often entails. Womble looks easier to get the hang of than other editors.

However Pinnacle Studio 9 looks more professional & has a better selkection of transitions etc; but I am unsure if it is as suitable for the PVR2 USB footage. Also does it have the same re-encoding/tranforming advantages?

Which would my fellow PVR2 USB users suggest????

Ok, I am a fellow user of same device. What you really want is the old vs. of Womble, mpeg-vcr 3.14. It's much easier, better layout. Also, the only thing you want to do with womble is cut/trim, which no other program seems to do as well or as fast since no re-encode necessary to splice mpg back together! I edit out commercials from 30min sitcoms, which leaves about 20min of programming and it finishes that edit in about 2-3minutes!

For adding menus/transitions/titles and authoring to svcd/dvd I would not recommend studio 9. Instead, go with Ulead DVD Workshop 2.0 or Sonic MyDVD 5.2, both of which offer very easy motion background/motion thumbnail/button, user selectable background music, images and provide some basic "theme" based menu templates to use if you don't want to customize. Ulead DW2 lets you move buttons around anywhere on menu, whereas Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2 or 3 and MyDVD buttons are fixed on menu and can't be moved. MyDVD also only does uncompressed PCM audio or Doby Digital audio, so generally will re-encode audio to DD, which works great and output is great, but takes extra time to compile because of that fact. Ulead will not re-encode if mpg is dvd compliant, so can be faster. That said, if you really want total control of authoring, then absolutely learn DVD-Lab (mediachance.com). It's like the old DVD Maestro, which was the easiest most robust authoring tool out there, but DVD-Lab has taken it so much further with user-friendly and menu creation, motion background/motion buttons, everything customizable and so much more...it's the real deal for those wanting to dive in with both feet. Full function 30dday trial. Have fun!

  3. I think that biggest problem that you are going to have is how to get those VHS tapes to PC without OOS (Out-Of-Sync) issues, then selecting editing software. Good luck !
