If you're ripping a dual-layer DVD, open the DVD in DVD Decryptor, and select the "main movie files + ifo" option. Here's what I learned: Add the total size of the files. If it's less than 4.7 Gb, you can rip just those files and import them into TMPGENC Author and import the chapter settings into new menus then burn, and bypass DVD Shrink altogether (which is what I had been doing). By just going straight from DVD Decryptor to author, you don't have to change the VOB files at all, and no loss of quality.

None of the transcoders do anything to the video if the content will already fit. I can't see how doing it your way saves any time at all, bearing in mind the extra time you're spending in another app. Plus they still keep the chapter points etc.

Well, unless you're still ripping at 2x or below, in which case there might be something in it...

Yup ... thats what I hate about TMPGEnc ... it even gets rid of closed captions!

if it's under 4.7 you can just rip and burn as as iso, with no quality loss
