I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about this dvd recorder...it looks similar to the polaroid recorder...i attempted to do some research on the net and came up with little to no info!...their website has the specs @:
http://www.cobyusa.com/product/item2.php?curitm=DVDR1000&cat=dvd&little_img=yes&newite...anual=&driver=
I was actually just wondering what experiences anyone has had with the recorder, be it positive, negative, or nuetral...if you have had any experiences with the polaroid recorder, that info would be good also...
Actually, I just got one, brand new, off of ebay for $170, so either way it goes, i think i got heck of a deal!!!...i hope...but i guess you do get what you pay for!
If no one replies by the time mine comes in, i will try to provide as much info on here as possible..........

That's an amazing price, almost too good to be true. If it works halfway decently it will be quite a find....

Was at an HK site the other day that listed no less than 25 cheapo Chinese recorders coming out within the next couple of months. Who knows how good ANY of these sub $200US recorders are going to be???

The Malata DVDR R3 is a dual tray model. Colby is a single drive. If I were to hazzard a guess it's the Polaroid. As far all these cheap Chinese models they're has to be a few that are good. At worst the major competition will make the rest of the current crop come down in price soon.

He's referring to a link to the Global Sources website, in the Malata thread. It's the first link above. Interesting articles in the second link . It looks like Phillips tech is leading the pack in bulk production.

I recieved an E-mail from Malata Canada a couple hours ago. Seems like the Malata R2 has been dropped from they're North American lineup. Basically for reasons that are cited near the end of the Daytek thread in this forum. The R2 was Malata's first DVD recorder that introduced two years ago. 2 large Canadian chains have dropped them(complaints, no doubt) so they stopped distributing the model. Whatever R2s that are out there, that's all they're will be. It was defective from the start. The DVDRH1 and R3 are recent models(less than 1 year old) and have completely different firmware. If the Colby is the same model be warned.

I bought one of the Daytek DVR-P30's from Futureshop. It is a Lite-on LVW- 5001. So far seems quite good.

I recently bought one of these at Fry's Electronics -- it was on sale for $199. As some of the other posters mentioned this seems to work really well for most recordings. It is the Polaroid -- the manual still refers to it as Polaroid in a few places! It offers four different recording times -- 1, 2, 3, and 6 hours. The 3 and 6 hour settings seem to work directly with my cheepo-deluxo home DVD player but the 1 and 2 hour modes don't. They all work on my PC DVD player and a quick copy to another DVD seems to resolve that issue.
My only significant problem with the unit is that it doesn't seem to like to maintain the "repeat" recording settings over a weekend without being powered down and back on again on Sunday night (after the last time that the repeat show would have started during the week -- yeah, strange). There are a few other minor glitches but the unit generally works well and the price of the DVD+RW media is finally dropping. I record some children's shows on the +RW media and then edit out the commercials and burn a +R media for the kids to watch in the car on long trips.
I've begun moving some of my VHS tapes to DVD and that process works really well with this unit. Now if I can only get my old beta machine working again I can transfer those home movies to DVD and make copies for the family.
Regards,
Bill t.
