  1. Hello everybody,

I am sorry, if this question has been already asked, but I did not find good and even modern thread to cover this

I want to set a box that will only play movies and TV-Out it to TV box (21’ Panasonic with RCA connectors only, with price 150 backs 2 years ago.). Box is Dell Precision 2 x 450 Xeon with 700 M of RAM, running XP (or even may be 2003 server, as a backup as second, night job).
Everything I need is just TV-Out card. I found few GeForce cards on pricewatch.com on the day of March 11, 2004 with the price about 100 backs or under:

    $95 - GeForce FX 5600 Ultra 128MB
    $102 - GeForce FX 5600 256MB
    $90 - GeForce FX 5600 128MB
    $77 - GeForce FX 5200 256MB
    $52 - GeForce FX 5200 128MB
    $48 - GeForce FX 5200 64MB
    $99 - GeForce4 TI 4800
    $79 - GeForce4 TI 4200 128MB
    $85 - GeForce4 TI 4200 64MB

As far as I see (it may be not such professional decision), all these cards can be used for TV-Out watching. The major difference is size of Memory: 64, 128, and 256.
How is it critical, or can it improve quality/smooth watching having 256 vs. 128, or 128 vs. 64.?
Do you have any complains against these cards or better/own recommendation?

    Thanks,
    FromRedmond

The memory that is on an AGP card is used for storing texture images to improve 3D rendering performance for games. Its size is most likely irrelevent if you are planning to only watch movies. I would, after more reseach of online reviews, probably get the cheapest of the most modern cards on your list (FX series). If you are not going to use this box for gaming, buying any of the cards on your list may be overkill if you are really trying to save money, though I have no idea what would be a good alternative.

  3. Thanks. I bought a GeForce FX 5200 128MB.
It seems to me that is not too high, and not too low. It is medium, that is not bad.
