  1. I am trying to get away from some problems with tmpgenc plus that I am having and decided to gice cinema crafdt encoder lite a trial run.

It worked quickly and did well except that my mpeg2 files kept the 23.97 fp/s settings from the original file instead of encoding them to 29.97 fp/s, which of course makes the file unusable for making a dvd.

Can this be edited at all? I cant seem to find a setting for it in the program itself, but then again, Im not the most technicaly fluent person around.

    ty.

There is a command line program you can download called PULLDOWN.EXE

What I do is copy PULLDOWN.EXE into the same DIR as my MPV CCE encoded file.

Then I go into command line mode on WinXP (go to START ... RUN ... enter CMD) and I go to the DIR and type:

    pulldown.exe ccefilename.mpv newfilename.m2v

That will create a new file that has the 3:2 pulldown flag applied to your video file. Now your authoring program will see the file as 29.970fps

  3. does this in fact change the file to 29/7 or just trick the programs into thinking its 29.7?

If the latter, will it affect playback on standalone dvd players at all?

    btw, ty for the responce.

    This is not a "trick"

It is the proper way to encode progressive NTSC

This is how most commercial DVD discs are made.

Just be sure that you have CCE set up correctly for pregressive encoding. The defaults of CCE are set up for a 29.970fps source not a progressive 23.976fps source.

  5. I dont think I can win here - now when I use it, the file gets a gop too long error.

I'll have to research this one, unless you happen to have any other ideas for me?

  7. I am posting this because I found another error in the process, which I solved myself, but I felt it might be nice to have here for future references, should anyone else stumble on this search-wise.

After using cce sp to convert my avi to mpg1 complaint form, I used the pulldown.exe to make the resulting file compliant fps wise but found that it stillhad a gop too long error.

The setting for gop ( props to adam for showing this in another thread) is not set by default for dvd compliant status.

To set gop correctly you need to load a file ( done in 2.5 by right clicking on the blank area in cce) and then right click again on the file that is loaded there and selecting settings, gop.

    The gop is by default m=3 n/m= 5 , it needs to be m= 3 n/m= 4.

After doing this and redoing my file, redoing the pulldown.exe I got a perfect and quickly done encode that i could burn to dvd with tmpgenc dvd author.

Much much quicker then encoding with tmpgenc plus - but lacking some functionality and the gui just plain reeks...
