  1. I have a DVD-R (it might be a +R). I am trying to rip it with DVDdecrypter so I can make a copy of it. No matter what mode I go to it gets read errors between 58% - 65%. The disc is as clean as can be so it is not dirty or anything. I can't figure it out. It does some of the others fine but every now and then this happens.

Anyone know what causes this or maybe know of another way I can try and copy this DVD-R?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. If you haven't already, try ripping it with your burner, as these can be more tolerant with read errors.

  3. I have tried that in the past with no luck. I will try it again though with this one and see if that helps.

If you don't mind a few picture glitches in your final result, you can set up dvd decrypter to skip errors, then check to see how many errors it picked up and see if it's a reasonable amount for you. then use ifoedit to create a new ifo for the resultng dvd files., so programs like DVDshrik, etc. can process it.

you can check with PowerDVD or similar to see if the results are OK before you burn.

My old 8x DVD-ROM (a Pioneer) has trouble ripping DVD-R discs that were recorded in a Panasonic stand alone DVD recorder.

However my DVD burner (a NEC ND-1300A) has no such problems.

I wonder ... is this DVD from a stand alone DVD recorder? I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

I've read many posts from other users who have also had trouble ripping DVD discs that were made in a stand alone DVD recorder ... and not just PANASONIC brand models.

Tried smartripper and everytime it loads it checks video_ts.ifo, video_ts.bup, video_ts.vob, vts_01_0.ifo then it tries vts_01_0.bup and says "locked!" and says some files are still locked try to unlock with a player..

anyone know if this could be my problem and how to solve it??

    thanks.

  11. The content of the vts_01_0.bup file is identicle to the vts_01_0.ifo file ... only the file extension is different.
So, if it's just this file that cannot be read try this :

Using your DVD Burner drive, in Windows, copy and paste all files, except the vts_01_0.bup file, to a new folder on your desktop.
Then copy & paste the vts_01_0.ifo file to your desktop, rename it to vts_01_0.bup and copy & paste the renamed file back into your new folder.
You should now be able to burn the files in your normal burning proggie.

If there are read errors elsewhere though (i.e. in the vob files) ... you are probably stuffed.
