I want to take some frames from my DVDs to use for my desktop, but my current software can't do it. I tried ALT-Print Screen and paisting into MS Paint, but that didn't work out either. Any suggestions?
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

The easiest way is in WinDVD or PowerDVD, assuming you have one of those already - one of them usually comes bundled with the drive. In WinDVD you hit the letter p and it will capture that frame - in PowerDVD I think there is a button right on the program interface to do it.
Other than that, I think Camtasia or Hypersnap would do it, but I'm not 100% sure.
I thought you might be able to do it with PrintScreen by turning off the video acceleration in WMP, but it didn't work for me - not sure why... -
If you have an ATI card, the bundled software will allow you to do a screen capture. You have to adjust the settings you want for your capture. But it's an easy click of a button.
