  1. I'm puzzled here...

Got an iso image file with video footage on it. Plays perfectly with VLC. I want to burn it on a dvd but... I can't mount it. (Tried diskcopy 10.2.3 and Toast 6. Diskcopy gives error 95 - no mountable file system.)

Tried to convert it with ffmpeg. Ffmpeg recognises the content as mpeg-video and mp2 audio streams but freezes when is starts encoding.

    Systemspecs:
G4-400mhz-OSX 10.2.8 with lots of ram and diskspace

    Questions:
    a) Can the iso file be something else than an iso image? (and how can i find out)
    b) Is there a way to get the material of the disk without mounting? (Like VLC does... Or am i missing the point how VLC works? I'm no expert...)
    c) Will it make a difference if the .iso was burned the image file on a cd-r?

Who shines a light on this one?

  2. Try this:
    1) Rename the extension from .iso to .bin
    2) Get GNU vcdtoolsx and extract the mpegs from the file.
    3) reauthor the disk with the tools section of ffmpegx

you say you want to burn it to a dvd?
If it is SVCD you should try pixeljammedia's advice since that is one of the steps necessary to burn it as dvd.

  6. It's a no go...

    Output in console:
    2004-03-11 20:21:31.371 GNU vcdtoolsX 1.1[498] FileName = klokCD1.bin
    2004-03-11 20:21:31.372 GNU vcdtoolsX 1.1[498] FileType = bin
    2004-03-11 20:21:31.372 GNU vcdtoolsX 1.1[498] SavePath = /converted/klokCD1
    2004-03-11 20:21:31.376 GNU vcdtoolsX 1.1[498] Arguments = <CFArray 0x166ba20 [0xa01303fc]>{type = mutable-small, count = 2, values = (
    0 : -b
    1 : /Volumes/30GB/movies/klokCD1.bin
    )}
    **ERROR: unexcected descriptor type

    Does this give a clue?
I get the feeling this file is corrupted in some way... (A big hand for the people who made VLC though for playing it anyway, seems it plays almost everything!)

Seems to be slowly drifting towards a waiste of time... Thanx for your input though! Hanging around in this macforum teached me a lot! (Like there are some people that pop up quite often to lend a helping hand)

And so I leave. A little sadder but wiser...

  7. Succes at last...

    VCDGearOSX was the anwser.

Settings: 'mpg2mpg' and 'Generate Toast compatatible MPEG files' worked.

Thanx to pixeljammedia & galactica for putting me on the right track.

Got myself a nice mpg file now.
