A DVD insert is 10.8x7.25, normal letter sized paper is 11x8.5, plenty of room left over.
Get a good borderless printer (Canon) and you won't have any problems. I use 3 Canon photo printers. They print to the left and top edge, leaving only 2 cuts to properly trim the paper.
If you have a psuedo borderless printer (Epson, HP, Lexmark) try buying some of the die cut DVD Instert packages. Meritline, Neato, and Surething sell these in both matte and glossy. Comes in A4 size for those printers that can't print edge to edge. I've used these with Lexmark, Epson, and HP printers with good results.
Though Epson does state borderless printing, most consumer models are only upto 8x10, they also enlarge the picture and degrade the image quality along the edges in borderless mode. This makes it out of proportion so be carefull with your templates. I believe I had to resize my Epson Photo 825 to 10.5x7 to get the same size as 10.8x7.25.
Besides the newest Photo HP printers, HP also can't print edge to edge. There is a permanent top and bottom margin.
If you have an HP or Lexmark, you can trick the printer by setting the template to A4. Trial and error for template adjustment is needed though. -
you can attach a piece of normal paper with tape at the end of the glossy to complete maybe a 8.5 x 14 inches then print your cover and remove the extension and cut your cover. It works for me 8)

Best one I've found so far is HP's Brochure Paper in A4 size. Semi-glossy on both sides and MUCH thinner than photo paper. If you can find it in the U.S. I highly recommend it. You can use the 8.5 x 11 size as well IF your printer can be set up to print borderless.

Try going on ...www.cdcovers.cc to download your cover and on here you can then download their 'coverXP' program which you run and select from your picture file (you should have by now downloaded your chosen cover to here) the cover to print. This will then let you select what its for (eg.DVD kEEPCASE SINGLE FILE) and use A4 PhotoGlossy.(£8 for 50 sheets any good web site eg.www.svpcommunications.co.uk It will then tell your printer to print it and it will print it the exact size.Trim to the lines it also puts on it and it slips in like a vicar in a virgin...job done and as good as the original! Uses a tadge more ink but the finish I think you'll find is well worth the extra.

yeah i got a lexmark printer, it doesn't use the full paper it has a border on it, and it doesn't print side to side and top to bottom it has to shrink it to fit the dvd cover. So do you think if i increased the size of the paper on the setting and centered it that it would think the border would be out farther and use the whole paper. If so what size should i set the paper to in the settings. Also is there any way to disable those borders on the printer?

doesn't this waste a lot of ink? i was going to do that but ink is so expensive - i juse print the spine of the dvd and put that in the case -

Cheapskate! I use a Epson C44 and get compatibles for as little as £3 for black and £3.50 for colour and this prints off loads full size, as well as the kids stuff, as near to the original as you can get. Just the Spline seems a poor way to finish off even a backup.
As for the Lexmark do a test on plain paper as it always sets it in about 3/8 of an inch which would be your border...suck it an see as they say! -
I put my disks in paper sleeves. I can't be bothered with real cases, besides they take up to much room. But to each their own. The HP brochure paper is a good semi-gloss paper that looks very much like most of the papers used for case inserts. And the Epson printers that can do borderless prints really will do proper borderless without changing the image size, but it isn't as easy as selecting borderless and hitting print, or popping your memory card into the printer and hitting "go".
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
In your printer advance settings you should be able to set paper A4 and extended margin. I use epson 740 and a 900 with plain Costco glossy paper fits perfect in the super cases. The paper is thicker than the flimsy paper used in the OEM but it looks exactly the same as original inserts. Also you can get ink for a fraction of the cost via a lot of internet sites. I use shop4tech.com and the ink in one tenth the price of a computer store.
Total cost paper and Insert under $0.50 cents each.

@Doggiedaddy, does that paper stick to the sleeves?
I've used some glossy paper, but it's too tacky. Even before printing it's tacky.
I've been using HP semigloss everyday paper, I'll have to check out that HP brochure paper. I pay ~$0.03/ea in bulk for the semi gloss.
The village idot,
The Epson Photo 825 and R300 do not do the same propper borderless prints as Canon printers. Even in the settings for the Epson's it warns of image blurring on the edges. Epson techs don't reccomend borderless sizes larger than 8x10, and the boxes state "Borderless Printing*" the * means upto 8x10. With a Canon it is as simple as selecting borderless and hitting print. Yes, I do hate Epson printers, they're junk IMO I've owned 3 Epson models, and don't have a nice word to say about any of them. I went through 2 Photo 825s in a week, and 4 R300s in 3 days. I've only owned 2 Lexmarks and 2 HPs, but 5 Canons. I put Epson (consumer) in the same class as Lexmark's Ink Jets. I've only had one problem in the last 5 years with one of my Canons. The s820 had a full waste tank. Never a clogged head, or varried print quality. Both of those problems plauge most Epsons.
I know you (and many others) love their Epsons. It just must be the models I use, or me using the printer
If I only printed 10 or 20 photos a week, Epson would be a good choice, but I need 10-20 an hour. Neither the 825 nor R300 can keep up with that demand without problems. With OEM ink, the heads over heat and clog after 3 hours of use. Epson told me to buy a 2200. Perhaps the models you have are better than the 2 I have (and the C64 I did have)? -
