  1. About to buy TMPGEnc DVD Author. Can't decide if I should get the bundle with the AC3 plugin or the bundle with TMPGEnc Plus. I've been encoding in MP2 and have been happy with it and I don't do multi-channel audio, just simple stereo.

    Thoughts?

Only get the ac3 plugin if you want your dvd`s to be compatible with more dvd players, for instance you author a dvd for a friend and you want to make sure it plays on their player.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

Yeah, that's what I've heard. I think I'll get the Author/Plus bundle and maybe get the AC3 thing later...I think I save more money that way, too...

    Thanks.

AC3 plugin is only a stereo 2/0 encoder. But if your happy with MP2, and don't have any compatibility issues, no need to upgrade.

BTW, the sound quality is good, and with the stand alone TMPG Sound player, it can batch encode to ac3 VIA drag and drop. And rip audio CDs directly to AC3<- Really handy for making music DVDs.

  5. I feel the AC3 encoder offered by TMPGenc is one of the best buys in DVD authoring today. For $30 you get a two channel Dolby Digital validated encoder that works. I would recommend getting it. (You will spend more time troubleshooting DVDs for family and friends over audio problems and or video freezing due to audio problems. $30 = one hour of your time )

    Disturbed1,

I noticed that option with the standalone encoder/player. I tried briefly to get it to work but I could not get it to recognize my Sony CDRW. Plus I had to figure out the device naming convention (1:1:0 or is it 1:0:1 or...?).

Did you have to do anything special to get it to work?

Author with it, bot don't burn with it. It doesn't finalize discs properly. Burn the video_ts folder with Nero.

TMPGEnc DVD Author? I haven't had any problems with it (over 20 discs authored/burned with Author). How can you tell if they're finalized properly?
