  1. I'm just looking for some opinions/feelings here. In light of all the things happening now and since 9/11, would it keep you from flying? I'm bound for Germany soon and have been getting nothing but crap for my decision. Especially since I bought my tickets after the 11th. When I'm asked if I'm afraid to fly, I have to answer yes, but that would have been my answer before, considering I HATE to fly. So back to the question, would you get on a plane now and fly either domestic or international? Thank you for your time.

  3. Think about it... there's been thousands of flights since Sept 11th and nothing's happened on them since. Besides, air defense is such that they'll shoot down your plan before you hit anything, and the terrorists know that it's already been done and it's not going to happen again. In fact, now's the best time to fly because rates are so cheap. PLUS, you're more likely to crash on the way to the airport than in the plane itself. I say go for it... consider yourself a true patriot for helping support the economy in this time of day.

Yes, I would fly. Actually I'm more inclined to fly now that the tickets and hotel rates are cheaper.

You are FAR more likely to die in a car than in a plane - Air is the safest way to travel by far. Plane crashes make world news because they are such horrifying incidents, there is a big loss of life in one go. You are far safer even on a flight with a dodgy Asian airline than you are driving on the roads. There has never been a safer time to fly, it is also a good time to fly as there are many cheap flights about now. Think about this, whilst I have been writting this, hundreds, maybe thousands, have lost their lives on the roads. Whoever is giving you crap for flying, is basically stupid. People should make use of the reasoning part of their brains and not let the images on CNN have so much influence.

  8. Case in point: my girlfriend refused to go to the beach with me this summer because of the shark attacks. It didn't matter to her that shark attacks were down from last year, all that mattered is the news constantly telling her how this was "The Summer of the Shark" and that sharks were attacking people left and right. Notice as soon as Sept 11th came around, not one mention of shark attacks has been heard at all. Reason - the media had nothing better to talk about. People should definatley not put as much faith into the news as they do.

Not so much faith, more that they should get a grip on reality. I had every faith that what was happening live when I saw planes crashing into the WTC. The news is great... people should learn some risk assessment skills. I mean, I bet a few of those people that say not to fly, smoke. Smoking kills far, far more than planes, but will they get on a plane? No, they just smoke and watch TV, you dont see people dying in agony of cancer everyday. I am pretty sure that if the news just ran endless footage of cancer patients dying, less people would smoke. Its like the BSE "crisis" in the UK. The chances of getting the human form of BSE is absolutely tiny, yet hundredas of thousands thought it "wise" not to eat British beef (even months after new safety measures were introduced.) Even though it was safer to eat than imported foreign meat, they stopped eating it: Because of the media crap that surrounded it. Perhaps if they applied the same risk assessment to playing the lottery they could save some money.

Either she is very stupid or just does not want to go to the beach.
