  1. Hi

I have an mkv file I want to record to DVD, I understand I need to decompress it to avi, and then convert the avi to mpeg.

I followed the guide here: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/184742.php

But the video has multiple language tracks, and it created the avi with the audio track I didn't want, and I couldn't see any way in the decompress.exe that comes with avi2vcd.

Is there are way to alter the language track?

    Thank you.

  2. You don't really have to "Decompress" a Matroska file. Matroska is a container, just like AVI. Matroska however, can contain compressed streams that AVI's can't handle.

Will the file open in VirtualDubMod? If it will you can do a "Direct Stream Copy" of the video to a new AVI. Audio i'm guessing, will be AAC (not necessarily thou) and will have to be decompressed since AVI's cannot deal with AAC audio.

If the audio is a format compatible with AVI, then you can just choose the track you want (disable the others), and include it into your new AVI through "Direct Stream Copy".

Of course you could also remux to another Matroska file. This requires that you have a Matroska Splitter filter installed to playback. The Matroska Splitter filter lets your system playback files that are in a Matroska container. Microsoft has provided the filter that lets you playback compressed streams in a AVI container.

You will also need codecs installed for the various types of compression used for the audio, and video streams.

TMPGEnc can use Matroska as a source if you have the the splitter installed. TMPGEnc can input through DirectShow! It will be unable to pickout the proper audio track if there is more than one. Using VirtualDubMod to create a new MKV file that includes only the track you want is the simplest way around this problem.

To open MKV files with TMPGEnc choose "Open / Show All Files".

  3. Thanks.

I've been using VirtualDub Mod, and I extracted the video as an AVI, the audio is Ogg Vorbis (2 language tracks) and 1 subtitle track.

I'm unsure how to get the video and the subtitles to output together in the AVI - is that not possible?

I'm using Ulead DVD Workshop 2 to make the DVD, so I know I will have to convert the Ogg Vorbis to .wav or mp3 to use the audio tracks, but I don't think it accepts subtitle (.str) tracks, so is there a way of encoding the video and subtitle track together in VirtualDub Mod (or TMPEGEnc as I will converting the AVi to MPEG in that)?

    Sorry, I know that's a few questions!

  4. Ulead DVD Workshop, yeah maybe you should decompress the audio to WAV. You could remux it back into your source AVI, that should be the most compatible input for ULead.

As for subtitles, i don't use them, i've never needed them, and i don't know anything about them. I don't know if there is a standard subtitle format, or if your STR files are Matroska specific. Does AVI format support subtitles? I thought you had to use them externally. Again i'm not Mr. Subtitle!

My frameserving experience includes AVISynth, and VFAPI, so i'm not sure if ULead will accept VirtualDub frameserve. This seems like the easiest way to include everything in your DVD.
