I convert a DivX (.avi) movie to DVD following Rui del-*****'s guide "Configuring TMPGEnc for high-quality, DVD-compliant MPEG-2".

First I extract the video stream with TMPGEnc Plus selecting the file and setting the input and output file, and the stream type to ES (video-only) in the Main Window.

    In the Video tab: MPEG-2, 720x480, 16:9, 29.97, 2-pass VBR, Average=6000, Max.=8000, Min.=2000, Padding=Disabled, P=0, B=20, VBV buffer=Auto, MP@ML, NTSC, Interlace, 4:2:0, 10 bits, Motion Estimate Search (fast).

In the Advanced tab: Non-Interlaced (because in preview don't flick), Top, 16:9 525 lines NTSC, Full Screen, Clip Frame (to eliminate a bottom line in the movie).

    In the Gop Structure tab: I=1, P=4, B=1, Max. Frames=18, Output Int.=1, Close GOP=Disabled, Detect Scene Change=Enabled, Force Pict.=Disabled.

In the Quantize Matrix tab: Default, YCbCr=Enabled, Floating-point=Enabled, Half pix and Soften block=Disabled.

Then I run the program and show in the screen the message "Verifying" a lot of time. Then it work OK and get the .m2v file after 14 hours.

After that I extract the audio stream with VirtualDub in a .WAV file converting the sample rate to 48000 and keeping the 8 bit.

Then I convert the .WAV file to .ac3 with BeSweet Gui.

Finally I author the DVD with TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.5.20.62 and get all the .ifo and .vob files in a folder.

Then I play the movie in ASUSDVD XP. It start OK but very fast like 2x and without sound. I try with Windows Media Player and the same result.

I check the .WAV file in Windows Media Player and works OK.

What I do wrong? Please help me.

Perhaps your source file was 15 or 20 fps, not 29.97? Without knowing the source AVI specs I'd say your conversion was major overkill. Especially since you did a 16:9 output.

    My friend Gazorgan

I just check it with Virtualdub and is 29.97, so that's no the problem.

    Thank you for your time.

    It's me again...

ĦI fix the problem by my own!

After encode the video stream a lot of times with different parameters using TMPGEnc Plus I get the same result, so I try to author the DVD without the audio stream and ĦEUREKA!: the movie runs at the correct speed. Then, the problem wasn't in the video stream. It was on the audio stream.

Then I try with .wav audio stream extracted from the .avi movie file and the main problem was fixed.

Now the problem is the big size of the .wav audio stream versus the little one .ac3 audio stream.

    I'll continue working on it.

    Here I am again...

I found the solution to my last problem. Yesterday I spent a lot of time searching in the web an ac3 encoder. I tried with 5 or 6 and no one work. Later I discover the solution, it was already in my own PC.

Yes. The ac3enc.exe included in Scenarist. I'ts very simple, I just set a few parameters and after 30 minutes I get an ac3 audio stream that works well.

Then I author the DVD with TMPGEnc DVD Author and the movie runs at the proper speed with the audio perfectly synchronized.

Well for me and I expect this can help anyone who had this problem.

Now I only have to buy a DVD recorder to confirm if all this story can make a DVD movie to be played in a standalone DVD. Unfortunately, to do that I must wait for a while.

When done, I'll be back to write the end of this story. In the mean time, if somebody try this procedure succesfully, please give me a call.

Finally, I want to thank Rui del-***** for his excellent work in his TMPGEnc guide and ChickenMan (http://club.cdfreaks.com) who give me the solution for the ac3 encoding. I preciate you both.
