  1. Hi all,

is it possible to author one project in e.g. Pinnacle Studio 8 at 8 kbps and the second in e.g. Ulead with different menus and at 9kbps and mix it so that the video vob files will be at 9kbps taken from Ulead and the rest from Pinnacel project - menu video and ifo files?

I basically want to authore my stuff at 9000 kpbs, but Studio 8 doesn't let me do it as there is 8000kbps upper limit.

    Many thanks!

Nope, cant mix menu`s and files cause they are structured around the size and you will get errors with the movie starting up in the middle or other random spots instead of the beginning or just not starting at all.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  3. OK, I have a menu with links(ifo + 1 vob) , but I want to replace video (the rest vob files) with the vob files containing the same original video with just higher bitrate. Does anybody have an idea how to do it? Please....

  4. If your menu is a VMG menu, i.e. inside the VIDEO_TS.IFO/VOB files and you have no VTS menus, you should be able to take the VMG from one side and the VTS from another and put them together, providing you author them in such a way. I've never authored with Pinnacle Studio nor with Ulead so I don't know what they are capable of.

Basically, author your DVD with Ulead but with no menus whatsover. Then you need to author a dummy video with Pinnacle and put the menu in the VMG (as a title menu) where the "play video" button will jump to the title. Then take the VIDEO_TS.* files from Pinnacle and the VTS* files from Ulead. You'll need to update couple of tables in the VIDEO_TS.IFO file with IfoEdit, to set the correct values for the VTS attributes. They are VMG_VTS_ATRT and VMG_TT_SRPT. Downside is that you'll have no root menu so the "menu" button on your remote won't work (but the "title" one will).

Workaround is to create a dummy root menu with Ulead and then with IfoEdit put as a first pre-command Jump to Title Menu. That way when you press "menu" on your remote you'll get to the title menu.

If Pinnacle can't create VMG menus then it's very difficult because you'll need to "merge", in a way, the two VTS_01_0.IFO files. I've only done it once, some time ago, so I can't remember exactly what I did. I think I took the IFO file with the menu and modified all the tables that referenced the title to match the ones in the other IFO file.

Not sure if all this is very helpful to you since I'm only telling you what needs to be done, not how, but as I said I've never used Pinnacle nor Ulead. Maybe some of the more experienced users of these two applications can help you further.
