  1. Being disappointed with the audio conversion of TMPGE, I find it so "tinny", I tried to use an external encoder. Toolame was suggested in this forum, I get getting an error message suggesting that an external encoder was unsupported or words to that effect. I have checked the external encoder box for mpg2 etc...
    Any ideas?

I had the same problem with tmpge, I also found the sound was crap. Then I discovered it was only crap when trying to covert the sampling frequency eg 48khz=>44.1., otherwise TMPGE is really quite good with the sound. If youre ripping DVD to VCD etc use DVD2AVI to convert the sampling freq + Normalise first. Then you will find the sound is perfect

Probably it wont be perfect but D_Head is right, the biggest problem with TMPG audio conversion is downsampling.
Select at least 48>44,1 "high", even better "ultrahigh".

Check the "layer-2" box and browse toolame.exe. Make sure, you have a temp directory defined: option> enviromental setting> general.

  5. Still can't get toolame to work as external encoder, keeping getting "toolame.exe can not be used as external encoder" message. I have made sure I have a temp directory, but what about output file option, it's currently blank. Any more ideas?
    Many thanks.

  6. D-Head and Truman: use a external downsampler together with toolame, that will take you longer encoding time, but pays back in better encoding quality.

I recomend SSRC for good speed and qulity. Wavesf44 is good quality but very slow, SCMPX is also very slow. SSRC is the best from my limited testing (in terms of speed).

Here is the link for SSRC http://www.milky.ne.jp/%7Egalaxy/

hadoken: try dowload Toolame from another place (i recomend http://www.doom9.net - downloads) to ensure that you have a good compile of toolame. Using Toolame should be pretty easy. What version of TMPGenc are you using?

lupus, I recommend to use ssrc with the Azid/ Lame GUI to have more options when you downsample the audio.

  8. Yes, I have the Azid/Lame Gui, but i donīt use it for SSRC resampling, i dontīt bother using it because i think that using it from whitin TMPGenc it is pretty good as it is. (and i am lazy (-; )
When i use it i just use it for the Azid dolby digital to pro logic downsampling (pretty snazzy).
