  1. Hi,
I have connected my VCR to the line in of my audio processor (Realtek ALC650 onboard a Gigabyte 8INXP). My stereo is connected to the line out. I have no trouble capturing audio but there is one annoying problem:
whenever the VCR is on, I can hear the audio through my stereo even if no capture program is running. The only way to turn this off is to either disconnect the audio cable or to turn off the "line in" in sound options. I can even hear it if I mute the "wave" option in sound settings which usually controls all outgoing sounds (mp3 etc).
It's not driver related, I have tried several driver versions.
Is there anything I can do/change so that I only hear the sound when I am actually capturing?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jenn

  2. Turning off the "Line Input" is the only way to stop the sound. The "WAV" input is only for internally generated audio and has no effect on external inputs like microphones and line inputs.

Think of your audio system as a mixer console (which it eesentially is) with all inputs switched. If you don't have the volume controls zero'd and the inputs are switched on then whatever is on the inputs will appear in the output stream.

If you don't want an input then you have to either switch it off or zero the volume control.
Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.

  3. Thanks for your reply. I had a hunch that that was the only option but I thought I'd ask the experts on this board here
I have put the volume control in my taskbar now so switching the "line in" on and off doesn't take much time.
Thanks again, I appreciate your reply and input.
