forgive me for asking this question but when i looked for an answer, i didn't quite get one.......i just want to know if there's a program/software that can convert OGG/OGM files directly to a VCD format, i mean without converting it into any other format aside from VCD.....any help would be appreciated.

Check this site for some info about ogm/ogg:http://ld-anime.faireal.net/guide/ogm-en I have converted before and I remember it's not simple. You may have to dig around in that site to find what you need. At least it's a good place to start.

Read up by typing "ogm to vcd" in the search box at the top of the page. If you have a specific problem, post your questions but give it a shot first.

thanks for all the replies, I found some helfull info...i was able to convert it into VCD but without the subtitles and the English Audio...with the original file (OGM) and using BSPlayer, the audio was english and the subtitles was there but if am not mistaken I also had the option to change the audio to japanese and also the subtitles but only with BSPlayer...for whatever reason I wasn't able to play it with Windows Media Player 9.
Anyway, after I converted it into VCD the english audio was gone as well as the subtitles. Here's what I did, I separated/extracted the audio using VitualDubMod...I tested it using WMP9/BSPlayer and it both worked, there were 2 audios, one was in english and the other one was in japanese.
OK, after separating those audios I converted them into WAV format using Goldwave and once again I tested them and it both worked.. one was in english and the other in japanese .
After that, i renamed the original file (OGM) to AVI, i mean I just changed the extension into ".avi"...I used TMPGenc to convert it into VCD, used the the file that I've renamed to ".avi" for the video and the English audio that I've separated for the audio and after that when I tried to play the converted file (VCD), the audio was not in English but instead in japanese and I'm positve that I've used the English audio for making the VCD.
That's what I exactly did, can anybody tell me what happen to the audio or is there anything that I missed?......thanks in advance. -
First of all, good job so far! I'm not even going to try to sort out why what eventually happened ocurred. Here's what you can do:
1. Take the english wav you created and use FFMPEG to convert it to 224kbps 44100hz mp2 audio.
2. Open TMPGEnc and go to File>MPEG Tools>Simple Multiplex. Use the vcd mpeg you created(the one with the japanese audio) as the video source, use the new english mp2 you created as the audio source, choose a new file name and hit "run".
Hope that helps. -
Here's a better method:
In virtualdubmod, do as you have done, demux the desired ogg audio AND the subtitle stream (no need if there's a separate subtitle file). Then, in full processing mode, go to Video>Filters and add the TextSub filter (it's part of VobSub, you may have to download it and in the install process select your virtualdub directory). point the filter to subtitle file. Then, either save as... (uncompressed RGB avi) or frameserve your file to TMPGEnc. If you frameserve, save as "something.vdr.avi".
Convert the ogg to wav, i recommend OGGDROPXPD, much faster then goldwave, get it at http://www.rarewares.org/ogg.html
Then using the avi as video source and wav as audio, youll get your mpeg with hard encoded subtitles.
EDIT : srry teegee didn't see your post, but next time, this might be an easier method... -

Though the method you gave me was kinda simple, it worked out!....so thanks alot!.......but it's just that or I think I had to convert it to MPEG/VCD 2 times before I got right, first result in MPEG is with the japanese audio and I had to use that file for the video and the English audio for the second result which is in MPEG also which came out perfect.....but the main point is I got it right!.....so thanks again!.
mujahid:
At first I really didn't care about the subtitles cuz as long as i can understand the movie, that's fine with me.....but with this method that you gave me, might as well learn to do the subtitles...I wanted to know what happen to the subtitles anyway and how do I put it back, I'm gonna try that method......thanks alot too!. -
heh, glad i ran into this thread.
i've converted quite a bit of ogm to dvd, but converting ogm to vcd should be pretty much the same process.
here's what you want to do.
-make a copy of the ogm file.
-renamed the extension to avi.
-load the file into virtualdub
-click on stream | list stream
-select the subtitle stream and click on demux
-name the file the same name as avi file and save to hd.
-you should now have a subtitle stream
-download and install vobsub.
-play the avi file using windows media player...you should now have permanent subtitles on the avi file.
-you can also use virtualdub to demux audio and resample although most people don't recommend it. it's free and easy.
-load the avi into virtualdub again
-click on stream | list stream
-right-click on the audio stream you want and select full processing
-right click on the audio stream again and select convert
-make sure that the audio is 44100 mhz, if it isn't select it. if it is, leave it alone and click ok.
-click on save wav
-save the wave file to hd.
-now you can load the avi into tmpgenc
-convert to mpeg1 like you would normally but select ES (video only)
-the audio field should be blank (erase whatever is in the audio path)
-after it's done, you should end up with an m2v file
-use tmpgenc again to mux your audio and video.
-burn to cd.
you can pm me or add me to msn messenger if you need more help. my address is dafreak24@hotmail.com.
I'm about to convert the full series of noir ogm in the next couple of days. I'm kinda of an anime junkie, so if you need any help let me know. -
bleh.
after reading the entire thread (wow, what a concept eh?), looks like you figured it out.
sorry to repeat what others have already posted. -

one more question (my apology)........I got the Video/Audio conversion right but the subtitles conversion, i didn't quite get it........after demuxing it (subtitle/text stream), what do i do next in order for my VCD to have subtitles?. -
all you have to do is download vobsub and install it.
make sure you rename your ogm file to avi.
also make sure that you named the subtitle stream the same name as the avi.
so say you have xxxx.ogm file.
-rename the file to xxxx.avi
-demux the sub stream and name it xxxx.srt
save both of these files into the same folder, and the just play the avi file to see if the subs apear.
now load the avi into tmpgenc and encode. your avi should now have permanent subtitles and the subtitles should appear as you encode. -
thanks again......I appreciate all your help and I'm really learning alot here.....please don't get tired of sharing your wisdom to others like me.

ok am back again (unfortunately) and I hope that somebody will come accross this......I've mentioned above that I was able to convert some OGG files into MPG/VCD.....yes that's true, I've converted like 3 OGG files into VCD/MPG so far and suddenly when I tried to convert 1 OGG file, I got this error about "divx**.ax"...i couldn't remember the exact filename but it has something to do about the "divx"......by the way I used TMPGenc to convert them but that's after i demux it using Goldwave, I didn't have any problems demuxing the file...only when I tried to convert it into VCD/MPG using the TMPGenc and like what I said, I didn't have any problems at all when I converted those 3 OGG files......I didn't do anything, I didn't install any programs...uninstall or made any setting changes.....anybody can help me?......I was hoping that the person who helped me will be able to help me again.....thanks in advance.

give us an update once you've done what teegee posted.
if that doesn't work, try to post the exact error message if you can. -
ok i did what teegee said......i've uninstalled the divx codec that i have, redownloaded the latest one (ver.5.1.1) and reinstalled it but unfortunately it didn't work either....here's the exact error message that i got:
"TMPGenc has caused an error in DIVXDEC.AX file, TMPGenc will now close....
If the problem continues, try restarting your computer"
I think i've restarted my PC a million times but it didn't make any difference......would it help if I redownload a new copy of TMPGenc and reinstall it?.......like what I said, I didnt have any problems converting the other OGG/OGM files......it's an anime movies with 8 episodes, i've already converted the first 3 and it worked out perfectly......i did the exact same thing converting those files with the rest of the episodes but i keep getting this error......here's what i did:
1.Demuxed the audio using VirtualDubMod.
2.Convert that audio into WAV format using Goldwave.
3.Change the extension of the file into ".avi".....I don't really know if I
have to do that or if it will make any difference but I didn't think so.
4.Convert it to VCD using TMPGenc.
For the Video:
The file that I've changed the extension to ".avi", didn't do any
changes on the settings.
For the Audio:
The converted audio (WAV)......no changes made.
I've also tried to convert only the video first into VCD/MPG....no audio cuz I thought that the video alone without the audio has to be converted first into VCD/MPG before you can join both the video and the audio to make VCD...BUT that didn't help either....what could have I done wrong?......thanks again. -
Very strange problem indeed. I wonder if the OGM container is causing the Divx error. Try opening up the file(as OGM) with Virtualdubmod and saving it as avi using direct stream copy for a/v.
If that doesn't work, try installing FFDSHOW, which is another Divx Decoder that TMPGEnc seems get a long with well.
If that doesn't work, I would try removing TMPGEnc and then re-installing it.
If that doesn't work I would firmly take hold of my computer and proceed to violently throw it up against a brick wall. Perhaps this method isn't the most effective at dealing with your problem but it is certainly the most gratifying and fulfilling in my opinion. -
ok, here's what i would do.
first play the ogm file. make sure it plays ok.
next, I would disable the divxde.ax codec.
locate the file on your hd.
rename the file to divxd.old or something like that.
try to play the file again
if it plays ok, then try to encode it.
if it doesn't play ok, you might want to uninstall that codec and reinstall it.
do this through device manager
in device manager, expand the video, sound and game controller tree.
double-click on video codec
click on the properties tab
located the divxdec.ax codec
right-click on it and choose to uninstall -
ok I'm gonna try yours & teegee's suggestion......I'll let you guys know what happen.....thanks alot again...
-
ok here's what happened......first i tried to play the OGG/OGM files using BSplayer & Windows Media player 9......with BSPlayer it plays for a couple of minutes and then it'll stop ....it says that there's an error or something, with WMP9 it couldn't play it at all.
After that I uninstalled the Divx Codec, Xvid Codec & the BSPlayer cuz i was thinking to reinstall all those three.......but after i have uninstalled the codecs and the player and try to play it using Windows Media Player 9, it worked!......now, i dont know why......i was thinking that maybe there's something in those 3 that's conflicting with the WMP9 from playing OGG/OGM files... but i know OGG/OGM files requires either Divx or Xvid codec, so i was kinda puzzled.....and then i realized that maybe because I have installed an OGG filter,Subtitle Filter and Vobsub (that was just my opinion, if I'm wrong could u please fill me in).
ok so i was able to play them after uninstalling the codecs.....after that I did what Teegee exactly said......I installed FFDSHOW......open the file in VirtualDubMod.......saved it as "avi" using direct stream copy for a/v (cuz that's the only thing it's allowing me to do since there's no Divx or Xvid installed).......and then after that i converted it using TMPGenc, i used the avi that i've saved for the video.....for the audio i separated it or demuxed it using VirtualDubMod too and just converted into wav format using Goldwave....and then it came out into a pretty nice VCD.
After all these confusion, it's all worthiet.....so once again without the help of u guyz, i wouldn't be able to figure it out....so thanks for all the help, i'l prolly be back again...lol....thanks! -
Nice job, dude! Here's my theory why uninstalling Divx and Xvid worked. First of all I think you're right. Clearly there was a filter conflict that uninstalling resolved. You probably still had the Microsoft mpeg-4 filter left over so that's what was actually doing the decoding for you, that is until you installed FFDSHOW. I use Zoom Player to play all my movies and when you right click on the screen there's "filter control" sub-menu that tells me which decoders are being used for both audio and video. Anyway, glad you managed to sort everything out.
