  1. I've read through some very similar posts and havent found the answer to this particular problem... but bear with me if this is a repeat (and blame it on my inexperience).

I have been attempting to convert an avi to mpeg and then burn it as a VCD. I used VirtualDub to extract the audio, then TMPGEnc to convert it to mpg and mix the audio back in.

It plays fine on MediaPlayer, but after burning it, the audio and video are out of sync when I try to play it on my DVD player. If anyone could offer some advice on how to fix this, I'd be very grateful

    Thanks in advance,
    Colin

Is your source AVI, DV AVI, MPEG4 AVI (Divx), what? Is the whole thing out of sync? Does it start out okay and get progressively more and more out of sync? Is this a file you downloaded somewhere? Did you capture this file? What about dropped/bad frames? Did you check for any of those things?

  3. Hmm... lots of considerations. Here's what I know:

    The source is DivX
The whole thing is out of sync, equally (ie does not get better or worse as it progresses)
I downloaded the file, did not make it myself
I did check for bad frames, and everything seems ok in that respect.

It is only off by about a quarter of a second and only when I play it on my DVD player... any guesses?

    Thanks,
    Colin

If the whole thing is off, try using a delay on the audio when you encode it.
