  1. Hi guys:

I got a DVD from Ebay that looks like a good copy but the quality is so so. I was told it would be an original "new and sealed". I don't want to argue with the seller until I'm a 100% sure if this is a copy or not. Here is the info from the DVD:

    Media Information
    Disc Regions are 1,2,3,4,5,6,8
Media code/Manufacturer ID N/A Pressed DVD
    Format Type UDF 1.02
    Volume Name DTS_8480__TARZAN__SCN
    Application id
Implementation id Daikin U.S. Comtec Lab
    Recording Date/Time (mm/dd/yyyy) 12/17/2003 23:48:18
    Format Capacity 4.13GB(4.43GB)
    Book Type DVD-ROM
    Media Type DVD-ROM
    Data area starting sector 30000h
    Data area end sector 2103E8h
    Linear Density 0.267um/bit
    Track Density 0.74um/track
    Number of Layers 1

    Thanks in advance

  2. It appears to be a bootleg. The multiple region codes stand out to me as rather suspicious, but I could be wrong. Hopefully, the experts will chime in.

What a coincidence, I just bought a DVD set today from someone in China off ebay.

The "new and sealed" was also used in the description of my item. I know China + software = piracy, but the description indicated that the DVDs were an official Asian release and were DVD-9 discs.

I'll be interested to see if they are actually dual layer discs since I wouldn't think the bootleggers have got ahold of DVD-9 presses; or maybe they have.

DVD-9 dosnt mean dual layer in asian bootleg disks --- its a mark of quality ...

true dvd-9 disks (as that mark of quality) are highly prized and sometime sell for almost 50cents more than the normal version (100% higher !)

except now there are bootleg dvd9 disks of the bootleg real dvd9's

and - yes ... they do have pressed disks .... floating factories in fact ...

as for your tarzen disk ... disney always uses region codes .. also there should be English French Spanish sound tracks ... all in 5.1

and the date should be 1 February 2000

plus does it come with all the extras?

or is this some other tarzan ? like the tv series -- it has all region on it ..

when was tarzan released? i think its been quite a while, and for it to have been manufactured in mid december of last year is kinda fishy as well.

  10. CUBANAZO,

I just wanted to point out that "new and sealed" and "bootleg" are not mutually exclusive terms.

I've bought a few DVDs from Hong Kong (all unavailable in the US) and they've all been "all region" and factory pressed. I don't know if they are bootlegs or not (and frankly I don't care!) but the quality is good.

It sounds like a HK Silver...is it at least good quality? Sucks you got burnt like that, but a lot of folks on Ebay sell those at cheaper prices then the originals.

  13. Ah, the DVD-9 Consortium.

I see they were flushed with success with the Star Wars Trilogy '5-Star DVD' production and have moved forward...

Yes. Well over 90% of the asian bootlegs i've seen were pressed and some were in fact dual layered. The vast majority are DVD5s. I can only imagine the cost of such facilities. I mean you can an daisy chain a bunch of burners pretty cheaply. But the cost and sophistication of a bootleg outfit burning pressed dual layer discs in Trucks or Ships off the coast of HK is pretty impressive, if you put the illegalities involved aside.

what is even more amaizing is that they are selling them for a buck or two and both the retailer and the factory are making money ..

cheaper than what it would cost to get your OWN stuff duplicated in north america ...
