  1. I keep getting bogus emails with viruses embedded in them, and I suspect they are from a past coworker who's still bitter about getting fired for slacking off. He's quite computer savvy and I bet he's behind them (everyone in our office is getting them).

Everyone in our city is on the City-owned telecom/internet service, and I want to find out the ip address of the incoming messages (since they are obviously sent under a fake name).

If I could secure his ip address then we could narrow it down and confirm that it is being sent from someone on the City's network.

So- how can I find out the ip address or server i.d. of an email that I received? Maybe this is simple, but I don't know.

  2. That may do the trick however if he is smart he may route the message through a few anonymous proxies so the actual sender computer can't be traced.

I use a little program called "Mailwasher" it's freeware...but it allows you to read your email from the server without actually receiving it. You can't read the whole email usually but you can see who it is from and if you don't know them you can delete, bounce and blacklist them.

It is designed for spammers, the bounce just returns the email like your email address doesn't exist.

As for the IP address idea....well....um....I could give you some websites on that topic but I believe that some of those sites are connected with cracking and keygenerators (ie..warez)...so I can't really say on the BB.

  4. Thanks for the tips. I'll check out Mailwasher.

I should have known about Outlook. It was easier than I thought.
