4.3.2 of the DVD Demystified FAQ states this:

It's possible to submit DVD-R(A) and DVD-R(G) discs for replication, with limitations. First, not all replicators will accept submissions on DVD-R. Second, there can be problems with compatibility and data loss when using DVD-R, so it's best to generate a checksum that the replicator can verify. Third, DVD-R does not directly support CSS, regions, and Macrovision. Support for this is being added to DVD-R(A) with the cutting master format (CMF), which stores DDP information in the control area, but it will take a while before many authoring software programs and replicators support CMF.

How do I generate this checksum? Does anyone know?

  4. (I should just plonk you for bumping the post twice...)

It has nothing to do with authoring, instead you should use a tool that generates MD5 or CRC values of the files on the disc and include these checksum values on a seperate disc. Or possibly e-mail the checksum values to the replicator or include them on a sheet of paper to be checked against. (Search sourceforge for CFV which can create checksum files.)

The key questions are more a question for the distributor... what software do they use to verify that the contents of a disc are correct (in which case you should use the same software). Or you'll have to find out what software they're willing to use.

Thanks for replying...As I was told they use a combination of expensive hardware and software to put the disc through many error checking tests,, but thanks, I iwlll check out that cfv deal you mentioned
