  1. I've read through some very similar posts and havent found the answer to this particular problem... but bear with me if this is a repeat (and blame it on my inexperience).

I have been attempting to convert an avi to mpeg and then burn it as a VCD. I used VirtualDub to extract the audio, then TMPGEnc to convert them to mpg.

It plays fine on MediaPlayer, but after burning it, the audio and video are out of sync when I try to play it on my DVD player. If anyone could offer some advice on how to fix this, I'd be very grateful

    Thanks in advance,

  2. your software player is going to be A LOT more forgiving than your hardware player. Basically, the software player will "forgive" the sync issues a lot better than your hardware player.

What sync problem are you having:
    1) sync is always X seconds behind/in front of the video
    2) goes in and out of sync throughout the movie

for #1, go into TMPGENC and remove/add audio to make it sync correctly
for #2, do #1 for each section OR, redo the entire movie correctly

With AVI's there can be a lot of problems. My suggestion would be to download DVD2SVCD and try the auto route OR (since you have done most of the work) split the audio out the the AVI file using vdub and then mux it back with the video with TMPGENC

This is what I did... the audio is about .5 seconds behind the video when I play it on my DVD player...

"for #1, go into TMPGENC and remove/add audio to make it sync correctly"
To clarify, you suggest having TMPGENC start the audio slightly later when its mixing the audio back in? How do I do that?

I tried the avi2vcd route (I'm looking to make VCDs, as my player won't handle SVCDs), but it screws up the aspect ratio (is there any setting I'm missing that allows you to keep aspect ratio?)

    Again, thanks for the help...
