What is "3gp"? Open your movie with G-spot and post the results.

  3. 3gp is the standard used by Nokia 6600 to save videoclip. Otherwise it's know also how 3gpp but the question remains the same: how can I convert 3gp or 3gpp in any other video format?

Pardon my ignorance. :P I'm afraid I can't help you. It wouldn't hurt to open them with G-spot still. Maybe there's a standard video stream that's only in the 3gp container. How are these files created? Maybe whatever program used can extract or demultiplex the streams somehow. Just a guess.

3gp is a MPEG 4 dialect but uses a non-open codec owned by Ericsson and a company called VoiceAge. The videos need a proprietary player to play back the recordings and there's a nasty looking patent/license thing that you find if you go looking to install the codec for translation. This is the same thing you run into when you record voice stuff on the Nokia phones as well, they are coded as AMR files which, again, are proprietary and need special players. I guess the idea is that these are the "standard" codecs in the MMS world based on agreements made in the 3GPP consortium.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  6. Not sure if you found the answer in the meantime but Xilisoft 3GP Video
Converter works both ways (avi---> 3gp and 3gp-->avi). I have been using it and it's easy and works. Download trial version from http://www.xilisoft.com.

As far as I know 3gp is based on the mp4 container with amr for audio and h263 for video. I would imagine that mp4 splitters handle it fine and ffdshow can decode both amr and h263 as well as aac, MPEG4 and AVC should specs allow any of them in 3gp.
