Don't know what this attributed to- I had decided to completely wipe out all ATI drivers and all the MMC stuff and start fresh...
I used Driver Cleaner to sweep up all the remnants, and then I proceeded to reinstall the drivers in the order they instruct you to on the website...restarted, and then installed the entire MMC package.
I was running the 8.5's right before this, but I wanted a clean install because I was afraid some crap had been building up, and I feel funny about those upgrades sometimes..
I was able to capture TV and play it with no problem on ATI's file player before the clean install. Now, while I can capture TV, it won't open on the File Player. In fact, when i try to open ANYTHING on the file player, I get an error or the program freezes up. FP won't even open simple JPEG files now without it freezing.
I then decided to uninstall the MMC, and reinstall the last working version I had- 8.5. However, now not even the 8.5 version of the program works. It's doing the same thing as the 8.9 version...
ATI is no help, as usual. I don't know why I even bother sending emails to tech support. It's basically the same form response every time- "Go read the FAQ, loser"...![]()
Anyone had any similar experiences? I'm almost on the verge of just chucking the 9700 AIW, trading up for a 9800XT, and just forgetting the whole TV capture thing altogether. But the only problem is, I'd only get like $200 for this thing, and XT's cost upwards of $450..bleah!

When you re-installed MMC did it successfuly install the ATI DVD Player? If it didn't that's one reason why it wouldn't play mpeg-2 video if indeed you captured as such. If all else fails, remove all ATI software and drivers and use the original install CD to re-install. The problem with ATI is that they update their drivers so often that this gives people the false impression that they need to follow suit. If you're not having any issues addressed with the upgrades, don't bother.

No, that's probably not it either.
ATI File Player uses the same system-wide info as WMP9 and PowerDVD and WinDVD.
It means something on the system as a whole is not working.
Anyhow, ATI MMC File Player truly sucks. Use WMP9, WinDVD or PowerDVD.
It may just be missing an MPEG-2 codec. Any will do.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Well, it's apparent something larger is screwed up here..
Not only with ATI MMC's apps not play any sort of file, but neither will WMP at this point..
I have already reinstalled WMP (no go), and he codecs- no go...can't even open a window media file on WMP!!
Just re-installed DirectX9b, and that got back my capability to play files in WMP...so we'll see about the other types of files later on..

Yup, it was the reinstall of DirectX that did it...
Can record and play back ATI TV, WMP plays files...all is right with the world.
Thanks, me.
