I transfered my first VCR tape to my PC using my MiniDV camcorder as passthrough, which i'm really happy with.
My question is that the VCR tape was quite poor but tranfering it to the PC has cleaned it up slightly and made the picture sharper.
Could someone tell me why this is, is it just the process of converting from analogue to digital that cleans the recording up.
Thanks

My guess is that your cam has a built in TBC(Time Base Corrector), which has the ability to do what you described. You made a wise decission when purchasing that particular cam.

Hmmm... is that TBC feature built into some TV cards?
What I'm trying to do is use an old VCR with cable connections only and a TV card in my computer.

Nope. External TBC's fetch a pretty penny too. Lord Smurf recommends the DataVideo TBC-1000 which runs around $300.
