Hi, I am having trouble writing at 4x speed. I'm trying to back up some old CD's onto DVD's to save storage space, when I build the disk (4.5gb) I get an error message; either "Burn Process Failed" or "Buffer Underun".
I have wrote dvd's before and have had no problems at all. Are there any settings I can maybe switch to stop this from hapenning, it only seems to hapen when I make a large data dvd. I would like to be able to write at 4x as I don't usually get these errors.
System:
Intel PIII 1000Mhz
DVD Writer: Sony DVD RW DW-U14a
Windows XP Pro (service Pack 1 Installed)
512mb RAM PC 133
2X 60GB HD's
Burning Sofware: Nero 6 Ultra Edition.
Media: BulkPaq (4x-Speed).
ASPI:
WNASPI32.DLL Version: 4.712 (0)
WINASPI.DLL Version: 4.60 (1021)
ASPI32.SYS Version: 4.712 (0)
WOWPOST.EXE Version: 4.60 (1021)
When I use ASPICHK.EXE it reports "ASPI is not properly installed. One or more components have been replaced with older versions of the software". I have infact installed the latest version, rebooted, still nothing.
ASPI Contents: Software
install.bat installation batch file
reg_xp.exe registry modification utility
aspixp.sys 32-bit ASPI driver ( v 4.71.2 )
wnaspixp.dll 32-bit ASPI DLL ( v 4.71.2 )
aspi64.sys 64-bit ASPI driver ( v 4.70.8 )
wnaspi64.dll 64-bit ASPI DLL ( v 4.70.8 )
I have tried the reg_xp.exe, doesnt seem to do anything.
Any Help Greatly Appreciated.

Hi again, I have flashed the DVD Writers Firmware from Sony DVD RW DW-U14a to Sony DVD RW DRU-510a. Firmware: 1.0f (3 flashes in all) changed media to Mirror Platinum 4x DVD-R's. Now I can write the dvd's ok but it takes me 30 minutes per disk, Nero reports 13 Minutes (4x speed) to complete. But still 30 minutes per dvd; any suggestions?
Files I used to flash:
14A_to_510A [1.0c]
510A_10d
510A_10f
All From http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=18382&highlight=sony+dwu14a
Anything at all that might help me recover my speed?
Thanks In Advance."Smell The Flowers Whilst You Can." -
Can Anyone at all help me with this or am I wasting my time here?
I have ASPI Fixed now but still writing at 2x instead of my Original 4x

There have been several threads on Nero and Sony drives. So my first question is have you tried going back to RecordNow that came with the drive?
I had all kinds of problems with Nero and my Sony DR500. Would write only at 4X, then would not work with - media, etc.
I installed the version of Recordnow that came with the drive and my troubles disappeared.
Just a thought -
I just fixed some burn problems with my Sony DRU-500a. I don't know if this will help you but you may wish to check this out https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=216828

Hi. My drive Originaly was "Sony DVD RW DW-U14a" I flashed it 3 times using the flash updates from Sony's website; to Sony DRU-500A Firmware 1.0f - I'm not keen on Record Now, it doesnt seem to have all the functions of nero or am I missing something? I did however write ok with Nero with my "Sony DVD RW DW-U14a" but I got too many buffer underuns. hence the 3 flash's. Flashing the drive 3 times did help me but at the cost of 30 minute per disk, the drive is a 4x drive and its now writing a 2x - Clone DVD however writes them in 13 or so minutes, is there a patch for this drive for it to function properly with Nero Express 6.0 ?
the latest aspi version messes up your drive, you need to use an older one
Hi. Can you tell me what version exactly I might need to revert back to?
Thanks.

Hi. Well my drive was originaly a "Sony DVD RW DW-U14a" so not sure this link is for me, did you flash your drive?
thanks.
P.S. I did manage to find some firmware that reverts my drive back to its original state but when I downloaded it I got an error when unpacking the .rar file, I tried downloading it again but same result, not quite sure if I should go through this process after this error, the files all seem intact but just don't want to kill the drive - the firmware down-grade can be found here - http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=18382&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=sony+dwu14a&&start=0 on page 4 - post under "The Dangerous Brothers".
What do you guys think, go for it or? lol
thanks for the help, much appreciated.
