  1. Are DVD-ROM drives the same as players in that some have compatibility issues? I have backed up many of my DVDs and they all play on my DVD player, but my Dell Inspiron 1100 and my Dell Latitude x300 laptops won't even recognize the discs. Any ideas on what to do?

  2. Yep DVD-ROM drives can be picky about media, just the same as standalone players. Also some may not play dvdr's at all.

I'm not familiar with the media you are using, but you could try some Grade A disks, like Ritek G04's. These are known to be more compatible with a wider range of standalones, so they may make a difference .... definitely worth trying IMO.

  3. Also, I believe Dell is in the +R group along with HP/Compact. So the -BEall media your using probably wont work. I just had this issue with an LG DVD rom that I thought read both +/- but only reads -R.

  5. I had the same problem with my Dell Dimension 8250 and downloaded firmware from their website. Now I can play DVD-R's that I burned on my Panasonic DMR-E80. I found the Dell user forum very helpfull.
If you happen to have a Lite-On 16X DVD ROM Drive go to this site for the download. http://support.ap.dell.com/ap/en/filelib/download/index.asp?fileid=R53103

    Good Luck,
