Can anybody tell me if this is possible and just what work/software is involved to do this

Basically, for arguments sake, say I have a DVD that has all the deleted scenes as extras on the DVD

Now, say I want to put these back into the main movie, so that I can now watch the complete movie with either all or some of the deleted scenes that had been removed for whatever reasons

Has anybody actually tried/achived this, and what the end result was

    Thanks

Sure -- it can be done.

The results vary, as a lot of it depends on how the deletion of scenes was accomplished prior to releasing the "final" version and also how the deleted scenes are presented in the "extras" section. Depending on how these scenes are handled, your ability to "seamlessly" add them back in may be limited.

The only way to tell is to give it a try on a section of the DVD that contains the deleted scenes. Rip a chapter where a deleted scene exists, then rip the appropriate extra section. I'd recommend getting everything in AVI format to do the actual editing. Editing MPEG2 directly is a shaky proposition. Also, to improve the seamless feel to your edits, you should be prepared to work on the sound as well.

As with all things video-related, this is a classic case of needing incredible amounts of patience and glue...

  3. I got into this subject a few days ago with someone cause I had a dvd i wanted to remove useless extras (interviews, bios, super high quality audio..Stuff that would compromise the quality of the dvd) and keep some extras (deleted scenes, the trailer, menus, etc).

What i did is use CloneDVD and AnyDVD (if its protected with CSS..99% are.) With clonedvd set "Preserve menus" on top (its very small to see, so look carefully) and you can select/deselect anything you want and actually see what the hell it is youre cutting. Took me roughly 5 mins. Itll reauthor your IFO files and whatnot, so youll have menus, and whatever extras you keep.
Theres many other tools out there, but several people said this is probably the easiest way to do it. Takes me roughly 10 mins for the whole process to do its thing in clonedvd. (1.8 ghz amd, 512 ram)
